Default standard xcalibur with wren54

Hi all
I was looking at the standard xcalibur to put my wren 54 mk3 into. But my local dealer said it would not power it and a 80-100size is better.
Is this correct?. I fly from a grass strip.

I would have thought the wren54 would be sufficient..Or would i be at full throttle the whole time.

Ive read through the threads but cant see to much from people with a wren in the back though,

Thanks

I've seen one flying perfectly well on a Jetcat P60 and I'm sure I've seen a video with one flying on a Wren 54. I think your only issue will be the amount of space you have to take off.

We have two with P-60's in my local grass club and they easily take off in 50-60m

I saw the plane on a setup stand last week. I actually helped troubleshoot a problem with the clamp on the wing tube. Given the weight of the plane and it in your case being used on grass, I think the recommendation for an 80 is about correct for the plane. That being said, it looks like it would hold a 100, but that would be the limit because the construction I saw was a little "lighter" than the Sprint's. One of the things I frequently hear from our Jet Guys is: "It is better to have too much power than too little." I would think that is especially true on grass. But there is also a limit to that, especially when you do not have the thumb constraint necessary to not use all of the power that an overpowered plane is capable of. Please don't ask how I know this can be a fatal problem.

From the dark line just in front of where I start to roll is 275' (90m) and it does not use more than 60m on damp grass.

It will fly very well on a Wren 54. The P60 actually generally develops slightly less thrust than a Wren 54

thanks for the replies. The xcalibur is on its way to me now and ill put the wren 54 into it..Ive seen the vids with a p60 and the power seems fine to me. And since the wrens got a bit more push than im sure i will be pleased.
