Default Why Are Fuel Valves Directional?

Why are they? Are the arrows shown on the valves just there so we won't call and ask "Which way to hook up?!"

Hi Raf
Most solenoid valves use and electrical current to snap it open. The way it closes and seats is by the pressure of the liquid behind it so the directional arrow is important.

Exactly, if connected backwards the pump pressure would overcome the spring pressure and the valve would leak as though there was no valve at all.

That explains why I had the mother of all hot starts.....Thanks Rich and Vincent!

My ultra Bandit has been sitting for about 8 months as I went to start it after doing some work on it, I had hot start after hot start after hot start..... after the 5th time (Right?, I know definition of insanity and all that....)

I had to pull my engine out and put it on the stand.

It was at this point I saw that not only had I put the fuel/ignition lines on backwards through the solenoids, I had reversed the fuel/ignition lines at the solenoids.

And the biggest riddle is, I flew it about 8-10 times like this 8 months ago......Why no hot starts back then??!!

Anyone want a FEJ quality ultra bandit pipe?!

If your manual fuel valve is left open during fueling it's possible to blow fuel thru the pump and past the backwards valves into the motor.
