CARS II, You will love the jet. I bought mine new from TBM with there gear. 28lb with Jetca P80. Very strong airframe and flys like a dream. Got my turbine waiver with mine 2 years ago and still own it with out scratch on it. If there any doubts if a P80 can push it along look up Frank Mraz flying DV8R youtube. Tip to landing her is just slow her down and she will grease in. TBM gear work great just replace the springs with stiffer ones . Glad to see interest in this jet once again. Will follow your progress. Happy New Year to all !

Your very welcome, glad you enjoyed it. Sorry landing was not captured...camera battery went dead . It was a picture perfect touch down. I have upgraded all three wheels too IntairCo with electric brakes. Also adding two parachutes for fun. I'm thinking about adding F18 Style canopy on top of the orginal to give it more of a miltary look... but have not had the time yet to form the master plug yet. I'll pm you when I do and make one for you you if you like it.. again good luck with your build..you will absolutely love this jet...

It will be very nice to get one, thanks.I also have some thoughts about modifying the canopy/hatch, it looks too long and plant to make it shorter ( I'll have to get some drawings going here soon ) I'm also going with the 4" and 3" wheels, I will implement some of the original PCM design and my own.

Looking through an old DV8R thread I saw a post regarding flying with 1/8 of elevators up as normal, I also saw a post regarding the fix for that, the horizontal stabs were repositioned so the elevators would end up aligned with the top of the rear of the fuse when in the neutral position ( ala F-16 )
Can you guys comment on that.
Tks.

Cutting my first template by hand was interesting, I now direct my work to drawing, got drawing paper wide enough to draw all the parts, I also got me some nice drawing pencils ( I probably never use them but I wanted them anyways )
Where am I going with this, I have no idea but I'm going, continue

OK so, my 10 years old daughter can draw better than me that's for sure drawing is fun and I like it because I am now been able to put on paper all my thoughts about the design of this airplane and they're out of my head, fiiiuuuuuu
As you can see on the pictures I had to reconstruct some of the central part of the fuse to have a complete side of the fuselage and in doing so I had to gestimate the angle of the nose, I think it came out OK so, we are going with it that way, moving forwards.
I now have the contour of the fuse side on paper and I began filling it with details.

I modified three TBM DV9Rs after seeing the amount of up trim required on another TBM DV8R (mine is the one shown in the photos. I assembled some for other folks). All worked well and the jets flew very nicely through all speed ranges with no up trim required. Probably more cosmetic than requirement. Another individual I know, accomplished the same thing changing the trust angles on his engine.

Thank you for the information.
I read that on that thread, I think I'm going to screw the engine mount rails, that way if the trust angle needs adjusting I will be able to do that by moving them instead of adding a spacer on the back of the engine then I can glue them, if the 1/8" up elevators persist then I will consider moving the stabs.
Question, how where you able to move/twist the carbon spar or mount?
I always thought that the engine mount rails were too big and too thick, the owners end up cutting lots of it to be able to fit a bigger engine.

mounts. The original DV8R used plywood instead of CF to mount the stabs.
I change the engine mounting rails to the inside of the tail booms to get the necessary clearance to mount a P120SE. Also a bit of work to do the mod.

Yes, new mounts for the stabs will be great with CF rods, that way they can be rotated to find the right spot, I will have to think about that for a moment.
For the engine mounts I have already decided to not glue them till the right trust angle has been found.
Thank you for the info.

The work continues on the fuse parts, I may have them on a PDF file by Friday.
As you can see, some of the parts are missing pieces from when the jet crash landed, I have to flip the part over to retrace it or look at the pictures in the manual to be able to get a 100% part.
I'm also modifying some parts like fuel tank floor, it doesn't need to be longer than what I have on the drawing, it went back to its original size, I'm removing one of the bulkheads and a floor doubler, again that wasn't there on the original design, less wood lighter product.

Hey! Johnny, is good to see that you are still around here.
Thanks, I postponed this project for too long, but now we're full throttle on it to get it done soon.
Johnny, could you do me a favor, I need the pattern for the canopy floor, the pieces that I got are not enough to make a template.
I would really appreciate it.
Thank you

I now have all the fuse parts drawn on paper, some were easy to do a few were not because of the missing pieces.
The part the holds the stabs that gives them their unique angle was the last one that I had to do, this part is made out of two pieces sandwiching a center one with the cut outs for the stabs angle, to get to the center one I had to torch the part to soften the epoxy that was used to glue it together.

I talked to Johnny about the missing canopy/hatch frame, he is kind enough to agreed to trace the pattern on a sheet of paper, not only that, he found the missing BH2 together with the nose retract mount that was missing, adding those three parts complets the fuse.
Thank you for lending a hand Johnny.

Works continue,
While I wait for the pattern that Johnny sent me I decided to try to recreate the canopy frame, looking at pictures and taking some measurements, I was able to come up with this drawing but I feel it doesn't have the right shape yet, I will compare it with the one Johnny sent to see how close I am.
I also started work on the stabs, this is a great opportunity to see the insides of stabs and later the wing, so far I think this stab had enough glue, the skin was well attached to the frame, every where.

It would be nice if LDS could offer this as a kit. Maybe if there is enough info we could get it to them?
