Default Eric Winkle Brown dies aged 97

Sad to see that Eric has died. It would have been nice if he could have made it to 100. He was a simply amazing pilot and some of his exploits will never be reached again. He's most number of aircraft types flown (487) and the most deck landings on aircraft carriers (2407) are just astonishing. His aircraft types spanned the biplanes to cold war jet bombers and fighters. He flew most of the German aircraft during and after the war including the early jets.

A man the word legend was written for. Amazing life, tickled me that his 94th birthday present to himself was a 300bhp sports car...a real man.

And a very man too humble Dave. He had an aviation record that unliekely ever to be overtaken and yet to talk to he was just ike any other bloke. He had so many little snippets of fascinating stories to tell, but he did not talk down to anyone. His like will not come again.
RIP Winkle ( hero in my book).

A sad day indeed, he made an amazing contribution to aviation, and always a very modest man.
