Jet Legend Yak-130 Build
#28
Hi
I just flew with the tip missiles. Never tried the ordinance and now the turbines are in a Mibo A10, so will try that later on. In total I have 3 cilinders in the back doors. 2 for the big one and 1 for the smaller. The device you have is aclever one, but no way 1 cilinder will keep them closed...... maybe if you use a big bore from Robart. I would prefer to do it the way I did
The plane flies beatifull, but my CG is like the manufacturer recomends. Randy and other guys were moving it backwards. Last feedback I have is that 10mm is acepptable, but maybe more. In the nex monthes I will not fly the Yak, cause I am really excited about the A10.... good luck

Got the MDT decals on the canopy. Shout out to Nigel at www.flightlinegraphics.com for making them for me. Hint, order two sets... I did under the advice of a buddy, and I did put the first one on at a slight angle. Really think these give the canopy a lot of depth. Looks cool :-)
Turbine is back in, turns out I made an extension and crossed the deans connector! I smoked an ECU because of it. Rare that I have time in the shop without a 2 and 5 yr old demanding my attention, just screwed up.

After some self-inflicted turbine drama that set me back a month or two, the plane is done. Just need to have a buddy come over to help me do the CG. The landing gear door cylinders were installed, but I had to reposition three of the four to get the geometry right. The flaps were not done properly and will not fully retract. To get them to do so would mean cutting out a very complicated assembly and remaking it. Not happening. The UP position is going to be about 1/4-3/8ths down. I can live with that, this isn't a speedster. I printed a little case for Lior's MDT screens for the two turbines, pretty cool.
If the weather cooperates, I'll fly it on fathers day :-)
The table in that pic is 7' 2" long... this plane is not small.

Thats very cool Mike, glad you like my data terminals!
Guys,
Can you share recommendations on CG and control throws for the big (1:4) YAK 130 please?
also we find the shock absorbing in the struts is too weak, the sprins compress all the way even without fuel - anyone changed springs and can recommend a replacement set?
thanks.

Finally flew the Yak. Two flights, pretty uneventful. I did have the gear doors blowing open. I ordered a set of cylinders to add to the larger doors, but they didn't show up in time for flying this weekend. So, I put baffles in front of the gear bay on a former. Hoping this will disrupt the air enough to allow the gear doors to stay closed. Anyone think this is a bad idea? My only fear is that it creates a low pressure area behind them and sucks the gear doors in. Don't think it will happen though, the intakes are huge and there's nowhere for the air to go...
Has anyone flown their Yak with ordinance? I maidened the wing tip missiles on, planning on trying the rocket pods this weekend.

Thanks. I've got ten flights on it now, that was the first of the day. Got the smoke system going into both turbines, looked great on the blue sky. Pretty comfortable with it now, it seemed very slow at first, but I'm used to sport jets. The speed brake is very effective, really pushed the plane down and slows it quite a bit. I have 500oz servos on the flaps and I don't get full deployment at speed. They're at 6.6 volts right now, so more like 415oz, I have a 7.4 lipo wired just for the flaps, haven't put it on yet to get the extra oomph. May not, with the speed brake and me learning to slow down earlier.. I think it will be fine the way it is. A few guys were worried about the gear position, the travel comes completely out at rest, I haven't noticed a problem with it on take off or landing. The landings are very realistic, just slowly rotates off the ground with a little elevator. Some of the videos I watched of this plane, it was jumping off the runway, wondering if they were using take-off flaps.. I am not. This plane is a pain to transport, but more and more fun to fly, its a keeper.
Additional cylinder on the big main door solved the closing problem, but one of the little doors is open now... hard to see in flight, think I'll swap to a larger cylinder and it should work.
Best part of the weekend, my 5 year old assistant mechanic ;-)

I had the privelage to completely setup and test fly Tal Levi's Jetlegend 1/4 YAK-130, powered by TWIN Jetcat P-140RXI and Futaba 18MZ, in ein Yahav, Israel.
The bird took a bit of work to get right, and a couple of emergencies on first 2 flights, but after that we really enjoyed flying this beautiful aircraft with the ordinance.
Next is take care of the gear door problems, and add some weathering, and we should be in the sweet spot.
Good job Tal for building this massive aircraft!

Hello. Can you please post the neutral for elevator and provide all surface throws? Best cg?
Thanks
