West Texas Jets 2016
Time to put up a thread about our West Texas Jets meet. It'll be the first weekend of October. (6, 7 and 8) As before, this will be a very low key, fly as much as you can type event. Wide open spaces, covered pit areas and lots of jet flying buddies to talk it up. Our Club is small but most members have a turbine waiver so we are very jet friendly. We'll have a dinner at my house on Saturday night that is FREE to all pilots and their families. Each year, we have grown this event and would really like to see some of our region's jet pilots come fly with us. We've had groups from OKC, Austin, Houston and DFW areas. I'll post our flier here and it'll be on the RC Flight Deck. You should be able to sign up on RC Flight Deck also within a few days too, if not already. This is a NON Football Texas Tech weekend so our hotels will be empty along with the restaurants. Our field has been resurfaced this last year and we are also lengthening it next week so it'll be 50x1100ft but over runs as far as you can see since it's a closed down full scale airport. This year, we've also added a 4 KW generator and multiple plug ins under the covered pit area and a high quality safety fence.
As before, we'll have three trophies, Pilot's Choice, Best Scale Flight and Top Gun. If you have anything from a small Elite electric Fury all the way up to an Ultra Bandit (or bigger), please consider us for one of your out of town jet rallies. We'd love to have you visit...

Ok gang, West Texas Warbirds meet is over and it's now time to push on to concentrating on our other meet, West Texas Jets, 2016. This weekend, we had almost perfect weather with light down the runway almost the entire meet. Temps in the 70's and 80's. Usually, that's what to expect through middle of October in our part of Texas. Would really like to get some kind of head count so I can start planning on the free Saturday night dinner that I sponsor.
I'll be bringing my, new to me, BVM Cougar and Kingcat. Let me know of anything you might need help with and we'll try to accommodate you.
John

Hello, Guys!
John always does a great job leading this event! It seems everyone who comes has a great time and looks forward to next year. The runway is in excellent condition and the new power generator and power outlets are a welcome addition to the field since last year.
Move been working hard to get my PST Reaction ARF ready. Have a vacation trip and some daddy duties that might hinder my effort. Y'all probably know how that is!
If you've never been out to Lubbock and tried out our Abernathy field, you are quite simply missing out!!! Come and see what a really great place we have to fly!
Hope to see you all there!

Here's some pics from previous years events. Would love to hear from you if you're planning on coming!!! Please PM me or post here if you're planning so I can't get an idea for our dinner. So far, I've heard from Abilene, Norman, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston. Hope you can make it. Field is in really good shape too.

Looking forward to this event again this year its always a great time flying and seeing old friends and making new ones. The Abernathy field is a great place for jets, large runway and wide open spaces. John does a great job putting on this jet rally and I'm sure it will be great again.

We had a huge workday today with many members helping out, we've completely blown the runway of any FOD and mowed/weed whacked about 10 acres. Looks like highs in the 70's and lows in the high 50's. Light winds finally predicted. We'll have people camping on site so you can leave trailers if desired on Friday and Saturday night. We've also installed an electrical system this year with an outlet at every station. As is our custom, guests will use our large covered pit area and members will post tents so you don't need to bring/setup tents if you don't want to. Hope to see you all there

West Texas Jets is over and everybody had a great time. Despite all the weathermen with their doom and gloom, we had beautiful flying weather and today was one of the best weather days I've ever seen in Lubbock. Light winds of 2-4kts down the runway and 75 degrees. Yesterday was nearly the same but winds were higher and still flyable. Only one mishap and tons of flying. My party flew so much we emptied two jugs of fuel and ran down the batteries twice. Very pleased with how it went and thanks for all the help from the club. Topped it off tonight with a giant fajita sinner for everyone.
