Default Airframe for Wren 44 turbo prop

Hi all,

having flown Jets for the last years I am now interested in a turbo prop for a change.

What airframe are available for a Wren 44 turbo prop?
I know CARF have two models (Tucanos I think) in their portfolio. Any other manufacterer producing airframes for a turbo prop?

Cheers

Ulrich

Ulrich, the Phoenix Models volcano/Tucano is a perfect fit for the engine. I'm building the exact setup myself. There are several treads about this setup and videos on YouTube.

Sebart PC-21 XL might be a good fit too. It's designed for electric so it's pretty light weight but it would probably perform well with the Wren44 TP. It's set up for about 24 pounds if you keep her light, 93" long and 82" span. Lots of wing area for the wing span though, it's a beefy wing. I built one myself, ready to maiden, but on electric with a 5 bladed prop or 2 bladed sport prop depending on the mood. You can see my build thread here.

I just in the process of building an ESM PC-21 with the 44TP, although the airframe is on the smaller side for the engine, this is a combo that's been done many times. I've actually repainted mine into the new Australian colours, and done all the reinforcements in the process of stripping it down.

I had a friend who did the ESM PC-9 and this was a good combination as well with the slightly larger wing of the -9.

the ESM kits are good value for money as long as you put the work into reinforcements and throw the included hardware in the bin.

My Phoenix Tucano/Volcano flies a treat with the 44TP and 22x10 3 blade prop weighs in at around 14kg...flies like a pattern ship!
Depending on how much you want to spend this ARF is certainly cost effective air retracts that come with kit seem ok but struts were not so good, fitted Prolink struts with Intairco wheels and brakes huge improvement...especially for flying off grass.

Is the landing gear OK with the added weight? IIRC, the LG has been an issue with this plane (and other Sebart planes as well)

could younpost any any pictures of the install?

The weight seems fine, I did reinforce all the joints with hysol, there were slight modifications to fit the turboprop. Landing gear is same as they use in their Avanti S jets, it is very robust. The weight of hacker Q80-8M as per specs is 1075grams or 2.36lbs, this weight is all forward of firewall as the Q80 is mounted on standoffs. Wren 44i turboprop weighs 3lbs 4oz total, most of the weight is behind firewall as turbine resides inside the fuse. When considering electric setup you have to account for two 6S pack as weight, so Wren setup shouldn't be much different.
Ive balanced the model on Xicoy CG machine and so far I don't require any weight but I will know final results in few days when I am done with all the plumbing. Will post installation pics tomorrow.

Which size Prolink struts and brakes did you use?
What size fuel tank?
Any ballast needed for CG?
Thanks
