Wishing for a P70 sized sport jet that looks good, I can't be the only one.....

I agree with you Jeremy. The demise of decent quality “builders” kits is a sad thing.
BVM used to do a Balsa version of the Electra.. This was a little bit smaller than the Bandit, and a bit bigger than a Mavrick. It was priced at just $1495, and could be fitted out with cheap retracts. They also did a turbine conversion kit as well, so a P 70 would be perfect.. Great looks, great performance, and not too expensive... (Well that is an opinion of course).
Alas, this balsa wing version was discontinued, no doubt due to poor sales.. Finishing one involved actually using glue and paint!!
You can still buy the Electra ARF, in plain white for less than $2,000 and I believe Tams does a turbine conversion kit.. It is still requires some building skills, and nowhere near the price of a Bandit.
Here is a build thread by k_sonn where i pinched this photo from..

Well I know you dont like the T-1 (aka) fortune but its all in the paint scheme I think. Kingtech will have one at Kentucky Jets if anyone wants stick time.
Not sure if it will fly on a 80 size engine. I will be building one in a few weeks for Kingtech so I will let you know if it looks ok for an 80 class engine.
Also talking about engines soon we will have a new K80 that is about the size and weight of the little K60

Count me in on the search for the smaller sport jet.
I was very lucky i guess that i could get my hands on an brand new Carf Spark in witch i'm going to put my K45.
But an new K80 with size and weight to the K60 where can i sign up for that?
I even wrote an request to Carf what it would take to get the Spark back in production, or even better make an Spark V2 or Mini Flash kinda airframe to serve that market that is dying for an new toy.
Guess what......
Indeed... never got an answer
i really think that looking at the numbers on the K45's sold in the small period of time sinds they came out that there is great need in the market out there waiting to be taken for the builders.
But why no response to that?? i really don't understand
looking from an business point of view you would say that you rather sell 100x an small airframe than 5x one of the 200N range or am i missing something......
Cheers,
Ed

I am on the wait list for the Ventrix. Todd when is it coming out?
I'm looking past the color scheme of the Ventrix. The lines are interesting. I think with the right color scheme it could look very good.

I agree thou with LGM. I am sick of seeing all these large jets. The 60 to 80 range is perfect to me. Easier to transport. I had some Yellow and BVM kits that I sold several years ago and a Cyclone kit. What a mistake. I am still kicking myself.

Ive been widdling away at my a sport jet a friend and I designed. Sized for 90-120mm EDF's which makes if perfect for MW54 to K80 size turbines. All composite fuse, laser cut interlocking wings and tail. Everything is designed as removeable and would fit in a fairly small 24"x24x60" box with room to spare. Extra large top hatch, full (or partial) ducting, gear doors and it sits in all three gear with the wings off. Designed to fit around normal robart/e-flite retract assemblies.
Fuselage and hatch plugs are 3D printed:

Pretty much! Not sure when i'll actually get around to finishing the body work on the plug though. I was printing at the edge of my machines capabilities and the surface quality suffered, which means lots of sanding.
The horizontal stabilizers are also extremely thin, so they will likely have to be composite. Everything else is balsa/ply and sheeted with .010 or .015 G10 to reduce the amount of time needed for finishing.

This is what i'm talking about, is gonna be the home of a K45, but the new K60 witch gunradd is talking about would be a blast for this one
GSR, that griphon needs an 100N and has 2mtr wing span ..... Nice plane, if it was just one size smaller

LGM, you must have been reading my mind. I agree with everything you said. Don't like the looks of the twin boomed stuff (although I'm sure they are excellent planes). Just want something that looks like the real thing.
I currently have a ShokJet with a Wren 54 MKIII. Got it to get my waiver. Would like to find a better looking (or should I say more jet looking) plane to put the turbine in because the ShokJet is so ugly to me and it does not look like a jet. Sad to say the only thing I found so far that I would consider buying (and that fits your category price wise but not looks) is a BTE Models Reaction 54, but I don't want to build a kit (getting old I guess). But the price of one already built is too high, and we won't get into the price of the composite one.
There is a F15 looking trainer I saw here on rcu (under this jet forum) that looked interesting, will post it if I find it again. Found it, Philip Avonds Interceptor (still being produced). www.avonds.com But I'm sure the price is going to be pretty high.

Not everything about these was beautiful, but the style was awesome, the size was right, they looked like jets. It's what I grew up with. I miss designs like these. Even today's jets that are similar don't look the same. The flash has something droppy about the fuselage that I just don't like, The Bandit ARF is ok, I just don't want a 5K ARF. I enjoy building when I have time, many of these jets didn't even take that long to build, they flew well, yes they weren't "light trainer jets" but what we considered trainer jets back then was a far cry from what trainer jets today are.

Jeremy,
I agree about the Ultra Flash look and price, but I believe it makes up for the performance. You can fly blazing fast speeds with a 140 sized turbine, or you can have an amazing sport jet with a 100 sized turbine. And its built like a tank. We have about 6 in my area and watching them fly they kinda grow on you.
But like the pics, brings back some good memories. Basically I started flying rc when those models were being flown and I do miss those. And I wish I could get my hands on an Agressor to put my turbine in.
