Count me in as another who would like to see smaller sizes for the 45-60 engines and not the umpteenth rehash of the ubiquitous "sport jet". I do not mean to offend, but I see no point to/ have little interest in turbine outside of the military stuff.

And I will never go to the large 140+ size airframes because they are simply too much hassle to cart to the field and back, and they consume too much fuel. 120-140 is the largest for me, and 45-60 even better.

So it would be really nice to see newer military jets in the aforementioned size. That said, most of the JHH offerings are perfectly sized, as is the Bruce Sanders (CJM) stuff. Of course, these are a lot of work, but isn't building what the hobby is about as well? I have the CJM F-104 and will start on it soon. It can be built light (16-18lb) and should go decently on a K-60.

Foam for a turbine? Meh. If they can at least develop a hard molded outer skin for durability, then maybe...

Building a new mini T1 for Kentucky jets and you will be hard pressed to find a better looking sport jet. I wish I could post pics but we are not showing it until KY jets. Its got a killer shceme on it. It is perfect for 70 sized engines.

This one will be powered by a prototype brand new K70 engine. It is the same size and weight as the K45 engine. So this engine is a real game changer along with this airframe. I would get on the list fast for this airframe. Once it is released it will for sure have a long waiting list fast. The engine is still a little ways out and I would say no sooner then august but production is gearing up as we speak.

The engine sounds VERY interesting. The Mini t1 I can do without if it looks like the larger one....just not my cup of tea.
But keep us in the loop on the K70 for sure, I am itching to buy a small turbine and almost bought the K45, think I better wait a bit!

Don't know if they are still in business or not but every CJM jet I have ever seen is a brick. Super heavy. I liked the talon until I saw one down at superman in 2004 I think it was. Looked it it was a flying crowbar.

Every CJM kit I've seen had pretty rough glass work.. Maybe they've improved, but I don't know for sure.

I rolled the dice and ordered their F-104. The glass work is very smooth, no issues there at all. Same goes for their F-106. Also very nice. It's not of course Yellow Aircraft quality and detail, but it is perfectly acceptable.

Same me goes for the weight of these kits. They are not that heavy for their size. The 104 airframe weighs 9lb finished for a 86" long model. This is a ballerina compared to the typical lead sleds from Jetlegend and (even worse) FEJ.

The issue with CJM is that they require a ton of work and build time and experience, which makes them not represent the best bang for the buck compared to the ARFs we have gotten used to. You can get a 1/8 Skymaster F-16 for $1,850 with half the work already done for you, including the retracts/doors installed. Bruce's F-106 kit+ancillaries+gear will wind up costing the same, with a lot more work left for the buyer.

The CJM retracts are another story...

Ton of work I don't mind, I rather enjoy the "building" part. You just cant find that anymore with all the ARF stuff. Speaking of weight...just one of my SM F-15 wingsweighs as much as both of my old Aggressor II wings put together! LOL
At least with building your own you can have some control of the weight as you build I'd say.

There is a sentiment by many jet guys that a jet needs to be full composite. In reality on the smaller jets built up or foam wings are lighter. The extra weight on a 40lb jet is no big deal. the extra weight on a 12lb jet is a big deal. You just have to shrink covering every so often.

While not a 'sport' jet per se, the new BVM PNP 60" F-86 flies extremely well with a P-70. That's what mine had in it for over 250 flights.. It's a good enough combo that I'm getting another one as soon as this new PNP is available from BVM.

I really like the new Avanti XS.. its a 1.9M avanti designed for the 70N motor. one of the new light weight 70s would be rocking it, but an old P70 would too. Its also designed for a 12-14S EDF.. either way..

I could see myself having one down the road maybe.. nice plane.. not cheap though..

Sorry I must disagree. A good comparison is the BVM ultra viper and electra. They hare the same fuselage and similar wings yet the electra is lighter and a much better flier with its full composite wings. The mini T1 I am building now is also very light and well built and will no doubt have a light wing loading. After flying the bigger T1 for a year now its clear those old sport jets can only do one thing well and thats fly fast.

The new sport jets I have flown as of late are much more enjoyable to fly along with the light wing loading comes slower landings and less working on landing gear. I know some like the look of the old sport jets and I also like the way they looked and if that's what you want then go for it. Just know their is no comparison to the newer stuff on the market.

The one good thing about the old foam core wings is they are easy to repair.
