Right. Which is what drew many of us to jets in the first place. If I wanted to fly a pattern airplane I'd buy another pattern airplane that flies precision aerobatics better than any jet ever will. The new sport jets do fly well No question but frankly they are boring as hell. Fat and gamey looking, all the same looking. Personally for me there are no sport jets out today that are current designs that would entice me to start in the world of jets anymore.

I agree with most of this. I got in to jets to fly fast. I have pattern type planes and IMAC type planes. I was flying fast electrics but got tired of toasting batteries, ESC's, charge time, etc. I know jets in the US have a speed limit but that is what is cool about the smaller jets. I 60-70 size sleek sport jet will look and feel really fast at 200mph. Too each his own.

List so far based on parameters from OP*

- Sting EVO - (link)
- LA Scorpion Deluxe - (link)
- HEBU Charger - (link)
- Tower hobbies Perceptor (link)

More costly but fits the bill
- JTM XXX
- BVM Bandit \ super bandit

*Parameters from reading thread
- 70 sized jet (these days that's 60" to 72" long?)
- Flys in the 165 - 200mph range with a 13 - 15 lbs of push?
- 1000 usd for the kit at most?
- Some work is OK but 1 month build is too much ?
- Bullet style jet, not wide wing or wide body style?
- Still in production

Pretty good synopsis. The Preceptor is not really sized for a p60 or p70. I have a 45 in mine. It isn't particularly fast but flies well. The new K70 might be interesting because I don't think I want it to get much heavier but I think throttle management will be important as you could probably blow it apart with over 50% more power.

I had one of these with a K 60 in it. It was heavy but flew very nicely, apart from if you got to heavy with the elevator it would snap. But flown sensibly, like a jet should be it was great, cheap, fast. 155mph at half throttle. I also reinforced the wings with full sheeting extended carbon spar, glassing. I only lost it cuz of a flap servo failure on take off..... No chance of saving. But she sure was a good jet. Looked kinda like a Carf Lightning in the sky.Reccomend.

I hope you do finish that soon!!! I'd love to have a "babybird" for my P70!!!! Hmmmm, thinking of names haha

Babybird
Can't really call it a spark, Comp ARF already had that.
Eaglet
Eyass (name for a baby falcon or hawk)
Fledgling

Either way it's awesome, hurry up and finish it, you first showed me this quite a while ago!!!!

yea i think its been about 3 years since i printed the plug. I did finally get the plans printed and prototype laser cut parts ordered. Took me 3 minutes to frame up the vertical stab w/o sheeting. Yup, built up control surfaces, G10 skins, very little fiberglass/sanding necessary to finish it. I figure it could go from kit to flying (not including paint) in 1-2weeks.

No, not yet, in no rush, particularly now. Flew it with the DF and had the engine quit at the top of a loop. Didn't realize that the glide ratio of a viper and a crowbar were about the same and ended up in the weeds. Needs some repair now, not a lot but repair none the less. I'm going to wait to see the new K70 before I buy anything. Hoping either that one will be priced similar to the K45 or that there will be people wanting to upgrade their K45's to the K70 and I can pick up a K45 inexpensively.

I have a NIB Viper kit coming Friday. I'm purpose building it for turbine. I will probably do the same as you and wait to see if any K45's pop up in the classified once the 70's come out.
