Barry, would it be possible for you to give the measurements to Mr. TAM,, that way he knows what
size to make em. I am certain now that I am gonna get a Tam pipe for mine.

Just going to ask. You said a K120 is ok how about an older Jetcat P120 turbine. Is the pipe supplied suitable for this engine?

On a more positive note.

I bench tested my new K120 today...sweet

so once I had it all hooked up and all the cables going to the right place my buddy Dave (turbine goroo) set up my radio ( I would have no idea how to do this!). We hooked the fuel line that goes to the turbine into an over flow tank and started to learn the radio.

You have to go into the "radio" icon and run threw the steps. At first it was confusing as "add" equated "enter, and save" once you completed a task.

Once the the radio was learned we primed the pump. With the fuel line going into a auxiliary tank we started to prim. You go to the "test" icon and scroll threw till you get to 9/9 and that is the prim pump page. I hit the on a bunch of times as I moved the fuel threw slowly pushing bubbles threw. I got to like 100 if I remember and just waited as it slowly but surely primed the pump.

we connected the fuel line to the turbine and went threw the start up, it started right up and ran great. At about 30 or 40 seconds in and going to just over half throttle, up and down it flamed out (bubbles).

The turbine did not go into cool down mode. We put the blower on it to cool it down. Then we saw all the bubbles in the line from the UTA. So the flame out was due to all the bubbles, not sure why it did not go into auto cool down. Also it was saying failsafe in the screen.

so we shut everything down and let it cool off. Then we hooked the fuel line back up to the aux tank and primed the pump to push all the air out.

The other starts went off with no hitch, she ran great and shut down properly. We only went to half throttle as this thing is a beast.

ECU hook up and pump hook up.

Turbine hook up.

Hooking everything is not to hard, you just have to pay attention to what goes where.

I am ready to mount the turbine...but the pipe has me worried

Welcome to jet world. Nobody said this is a cheap Hobby.

After while the sticker shock goes away. Wait till some day you lose a new jet after 2nd flight. Shorted servo = equals 5k loss. It happens.

I guess everyone wants to know what were the improvements between the prototype and current ones being delivered. Double control horns was one, what the rest on list?

3.7L fuel tank plus 1L smoke tank.

Looks like my cat was let out of the bag. I asked the factory for a split fuel / smoke tank and to fill that compartment up as much as possible. Like Gunradd posted, its capacity is 3.7L or 125z of fuel and 1L or 34oz of smoke oil VS the standard 100oz fuel tank.

The price is as follows:

$170.00 to upgrade with your order.
$210.00 plus $25 shipping after the order is shipped.

If you have an order pending and want to upgrade, send me an email requesting the tank and I will send you an invoice for the addition.
If you have already taken delivery, you can go to our website and purchase the tank in the accessory section.

Because of this tanks configuration, we are suggesting that you use a manual or electronic solenoid valve to prevent static syphoning.

Good Flying,

Dirk

Good call Ronnie, all Tam needs is the length and size of engine. The length is probably best determined by individual setup, given the engine choice, placement and where you like the pipe to end.

Barry

Yes, about 10 flights with 170 and the rest 40 plus flights with a 140, including a couple warmer starts. The pipe was a bit distorted, but held up through the event, ultimately Kris called it a quit and had Kim send him a newer thicker walled pipe.

We're still trying to get information as to which T-1 is starting to be supplied with this newer pipe. Regardless of factory's efforts, I doubt it compares to a Tam's pipe.

Regards,
Barry

New improvements mention an "improved tail pipe". Hope this is an isolated incident. My Honda scheme has been ordered. K-140 waiting.....

I'll be ordering mine with a Grumania pipe, don't like the look of the original pipe... looks a bit flimsy....
I will also request the double horns be installed in line with the slots.

Like Barry said the prototype we had at Kentucky had a K170 installed. This engine was an older engine and not running good. We decided to continue pushing this engine and after about 10 flights it let go. We could see a huge fireball come out the tailpipe. The pipe up until that point was holding the power of the K170 fine. After the fire ball the pipe was warped and not in great shape. We installed a K140 the next morning and I removed the smoke system since that would cause undo stress on the pipe and ended up using the warped pipe for the rest of Kentucky jets (about 50 flights or so). Barry advised the factory about improving the pipes.

I have since gotten a new pipe from T1 and it is much better built and allot thicker material and should not have any problems. I am not sure who all got the new pipe design. Need to figure that part out on when they starting making the better pipe.

Like others have said though a Tam pipe is by far the best choice. I have bitten the bullet many times over the years on new builds buying the Tam pipe but in the end I have never had a problem with one and once you have a Tam pipe you never have to question the pipe again.

So it sounds like upgrading to a Tam pipe is not a luxury but a nasesity to keep our jets from crashing and burning, that's not a good thing as it now adds another $250 to the cost of the fram taking it closer to not being such a bargain! Not knowing if my pipe is the newer one does not give piece of mind and rolling the dice is not fun in this case, very disappointing, (the pipe issue) but...onward!

Tony I would think Dirk is working with the factory to figure out who got what. I will see if I can get some thickness measurements tonight on the newer pipe. Its night and day difference between the new pipe and old pipe.

BTW I understand about the extra cost for a Tams pipe.... The pipe for my F15 was $690.00 and the factory pipe went in the trash bin was totally unusable. But I never have to worry a bout it now and could not be happier.

Like Gunradd said, Dirk is working with the factory to figure out who got what. I had Jet #4 so it was an early one during the upgrade transition.

With the price of the T-1 and buying a Tam pipe your still 1000+ less and in some cases 2500+ dollars less than any other jet that even comes close to the T-1.

Its a bummer to lose a jet but the nice thing is the support I'm getting from Dirk and Barry to figure out what went wrong and make sure others don't suffer the same issue. Not many people would do that these days, Most just want to sell sell sell......

Thanks for all the support guys... Will be back in the air soon......
