I wish it was a drop in but with the factory pipe having a 5" bell mouth on it with the tabs and tams pipe not having the large bell mouth, the mounting tabs would have to be really long to reach the mounting rails. The tabs would flex way to much and cause problems with pipe alignment. I mentioned this to tam with a photo and that's what he informed me of.

For the tail section, just Hysol 4-8 hardwood tabs in place to secure the pipe.

He said to use carbon fiber and fabricate rail extensions, mount them to the rails and secure the tabs on the pipe where needed.

My pipe will be here today, the install should not be hard at all, there are a few easy options to mount the pipe, will see when it gets here.

Going to be pushing hard this weekend to get my jet done, my pipe will be here and my AR12120 is back in stock.

I am am working on some auxiliary equipment trays. One for the UAT and maybe the UP3 valve.

The other tray will be for my GSU that will be removable with locking Velcro.

getting close

Hey Tony,

just a question, why are you moving your UAT so far forward? I like to keep all lines on the suction side as short as possible, so minimal distance between tank, UAT and pump....and all 6mm Festo HW.....

I'm planning to mount my UAT (Intairco) just in front of the tank, with the connections to the back, pump and final filter (also intairco) next to it, and then in a straight line to the back, valves close to the turbine. Is a setup I have on both my Scorpion and my SM Tomcat (some other hardware used), and haven't had a flameout (knock on wood) yet....

all other hardware like receiver, PB Baselog, valves, etc. will go in front of the 'wet' section.....

Im just playing around with everything, I have seen a few put the UAT up by the noes gear tray. But it does make sence to keep it all close to the tank and turbine.

My pipe came today, wheels are turning on how to mount it.

Looks good and if the V 2 is close to this then it should be good for those that get it.

Lets see after 30 flights, if the V2 pipe holds up with a K210. I hope it good, so it will hold up to mine K160.

Got a quick question. Do the stock tanks come with the new fittings? Also can someone please give me the dimensions of the original tank.

Thanks,

Patrick

Today is exciting, ordered my Kingtech T1 in purple color scheme with larger tank. Now it will be time to get the engine and electronics together. Plan to use Kingtech 140 and JR XG 14 radio. Servos are undecided.

Watching and learning from others pn this thread. Plus I saw Digital Pilot maiden his T1 before the mishap with the pipe.

Now the wait begins.

Cheers,

Jeff

Ok so I have been working on what I will do with the Tams pipe.

First if you just install the pipe and center it, then glue in some tabs to the existing former at the rear you won't be able to remove the pipe for maintenance. The pipe has a 1" ring on the outside that I'm guessing is the mounting point.

Secondly the tail cone (end) of the fuselage has a lip on it so getting a ring, former in and having it tight to the inner skine of the fuselage is not going to happen. So my plan is to make a former ring from 1/8" ply. It will sit about 1-1/4" into the end of the fuselage cone. It will have holes in it for air to pass threw. It will be about 1/16" larger allowing the pipe to slip in threw the mid section.

Once the pipe is centered and mounted in the fuselage by the tabs I will install the locking ring. This will be made of G-10 and glued to the ply former. It will have the holes that match up to the ply former for cooling. It will be a tight fit.

Now to get the former and the ring in I will cut one end of the ply ring so it is a split ring. I will do this with the G-10 locking ring too. This allows you to fit the former in by collapsing it enough to pass the lip.
With the ply former glued in then the locking ring gets glued in centering the pipe. Offsetting the joints firms it up. If you need to remove the pipe you can still slide it out if you need to.

For the tab end I will make mounting tabs out of G-10. This will hold the pipe firm in place.
The end of the pipe will be 1/2" inside of the end cone. I don't think I will do anything with the second former that is further in. That's the plan so far, I will work on this this weekend.

Default Progress

I'm getting some progress on the tail pipe. I cut the ring out of some black G-10 I had laying around.

Spliting it at one end allows it to be screwed into the tail cone end.

To space the mount at 1" in from the back I glued in some 1-1/4" carbon fiber strips.

I will glue the ring in with Hysol epoxy.

Look what just showed up

Time to get busy!

It was a different purple than the one now on the site. It was more of a lighter purple, but just thought it was too pale is all.

On the bench for today; install the tail feathers, pipe, turbine, and tail section. I also want to layout the equipment boars. I will be putting the UTA back up agents the maint tank, the pump will be right there too.

The main fuel tank got the fittings Hysoled in and I am going to do a pressure test in a couple of days so I won't install the tank untill then. My plan is to have the majority of the items coming up from under the equipment board on connectors and couplings so I can do the install of the main gear like the tail section, wing wires, and air hoses. This way I can remove the board with out unplugging everything for maintenance.

Default Tail section

The tail section is installed, pipe is in and turbine is mounted.

the mount for the Tams pipe are G-10, the two tabs areglued together with CA.

Once the tabe is attached to the pipe the tabs get glued to the ply former.

I ran a center string fron the tail cone to the noes to give me a center reference line. Turbine and pipe are centered

Turbine is bolted and blind nuts in place. I did add 1/8" under to give the blind nuts more room to embed. The pipe is taped into the G-10 with 4-40 bolts.

The end cone mount for the pipe worked out well.

I made up the wiring harnes for the tail feathers, still need to do the wing before I mount the turbine for good.
