Had the pleasure of flying the T3 at FL Jets, just like the T1 but bigger and double the fun. Every merit T1 has, T3 doubles, smooth, predictable, precise..., we'll gonna be improving a few things from this prototype, such as main wheel location, moving aft about an inch, better fuel tank set up, better flaps linkage for less stress onto the servo.... The production will be a top notch sport jet for sure, feel free to contact Dirk or myself to be on the list for one, or two

Regards,
Barry

Default Auxilary smoke tank

I am installing a Merlin MKII 160 in mine, i ordered the split double tank for the extra fuel capacity so I can fly for a reasonable amount of time and still have a reserve..However I am putting smoke on it as well, so Im gonna share what I found. I tried multiple tanks, and found that the 24OZ. Dubro tank is gonna be about the biggest tank your gonna place easily. It fits perfect in the tray opening directly under the main tank. One installed and plumbed, some velcro on top of the smoke tank, and on bottom of the main tank will lock the smoke tank in place. I hysoled mounting tabs on my main tank that will screw into the main mounting plate, locking the main tank in place. I placed my smoke pump in the tray behind where I placed the smoke tank I had to notch one slot of the plate to get it slid in, I then epoxied in some wood mounting rails and screwed the smoke pump into those rails so it can easily be removed/serviced.

Hm. I wonder where you got the idea of hysoling tabs to the bottom of the tank for mounting? That looks pretty neat.

The blue looks sharp. It is exciting to know it is on its way. Mine shipped on the 18th and I hope to see it at the beginning of April.

I did the maiden flight today with 2 more flights. Well worth the wait! The KingTech 140 is plenty of power. I need to program some crow though. If you point the nose down on final, it is very hard to bleed the speed. I need more flap travel as well. Put in all the flap that you can get! It was a little gusty today, so I was leary of setting up a nose high rapid sink rate approach. More flap and crow will help a lot. I used the throws published by Lior and they were pretty quick. Thanks to Dirk and Barry for all the help and product support.

Thank you Unclejoe for the great pics!

Tailwinds,

John

Congrats on the Maiden John. Where did you set your CG?

On another Note.

I have the new springs in and have only had 3 guys contact me for new springs. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need a new set of springs. I thought I read on here somewhere that there were over 20 guys that needed new springs? Don't be shy and let me know if you really need a set of springs and I will send them out right away!!

All the planes being delivered from the March production will have the updated springs already installed. I am seeing more pictures and video of T-1's on facebook than I see on RCU, Lets keep sharing on this site as not everyone is your friend on facebook, (except Gunrad, everyone on facebook is his friend), and I am sure the guys here would like to see pics and vids.

Email me for a set of new springs

Good Flying,

Dirk

Thanks Dirk, I ended up putting the CG dead on the center of the wing tube. I just suspended it by the tube....I guess that is 260 mm back. This was easily attainable by moving batteries around. It is not pitchy. I think that it could go further back, but why? Having the CG on the spar is optimal structurally and it flys well there.
I used Lior's control throws. The aileron differential is dead on. The vertical rolls are completely axial. It flys nice on low rate. Maybe in my younger years Lior's high rate setup would have been for me! Anyway, I took some measurements and here they are in degrees:

AILERON HIGH RATE. MEDIUM RATE. LOW RATE

UP 18.75. 15.00. 13.70

DOWN. 12.00. 9.50. 8.60

ELEVATOR.

UP. 17.75. 14.70. 12.80

DOWN. 15.70. 13.00. 11.60

FLAPS: TAKEOFF. 16.50. LANDING. 44.50.

This is all I can get for flaps without cutting things up or changing servo arms. These first flights were done with a lot less flap and it was not enough! I have programmed in 7 degrees up aileron for crow but it has not been tested yet. The trim change with flaps it easily handled with separate flight mode trims.

I need need to tweak the expo. I always START with 20%. I have never liked huge amounts of expo on anything other than a foamy. I think 25 to 35 percent all around will work.

One last setup note. If you look at the stab airfoil, it is semi-symmetrical and upside down.....just like an Airbus! Neutral ielevator is a semi-symmetrical section. I set mine up to depict more of a symmetrical foil and I needed lots of up trim. Brilliant design work!

Tailwinds,

John

Well, I guess the formatting didn't quite come out like it typed it! I hope that you can make sense of my table.

And just to confirm.......I need the new springs!

Tailwinds,

John

Here are a few shots of the cockpit. The instrument panel is a pic of a L-39 panel. Note the smoke tank "headrest". I tried to it it up so all servicing could be done through the engine hatch to cut down on wear and tear on the canopy. The Spektrum recall resulted in removing the failsafe single switch on the service panel and installing two heavy duty switches in the forward fuselage. I've got a JR 1221X onboard until the spektrum AR20310T is available.

Tailwinds,

John

PS: I have no idea why the pics posted sideways!

Well Almost done, gotta set my balance CG, test run the engine, set my failsafes, and shes ready to fly.
Another fantastic thing about this plane is that there is tons of room in it, easy to get to anything.
Weather holding, MAIDEN planned for thursday.

Ronnie,
Would you mind doing me a favor and post a picture of the nose gear down and door opened. I want to see if it would be feasible and split the door and have the rear half close....like the F86.

That would be cool but i think the steering servo and linkage might be in the way of the door closing.

That's what I was thinking as well, but wanted to see how far back it would have to be cut.
