Those pesky verticle stabs, always coming off when you least expect it.

At least in Germany they have to do structural load testing before the model is certified to fly, but I guess in this case it still failed... Maybe the fin was properly secured on then?? All speculation of course.

sad to see it go in after what I'm sure was tons on work

hoping some decent quality video of the B2 flying surfaces soon!

thanks

dave

They are making them bigger and out of wood so you know that is not going to last. You can see the tail separated and the rest was history.

There is another thread on RC network with a full scale BD-5 made from wood as well, not sure that is going through there minds when they build like this?

I think it was impressive how gently the jet came down after re-kitting itself. Also it sounds like the turbine shut down almost immediately. Either fast fingers or it shut itself down automatically.

So for those who have been to Jet Power 2016 - Is there anything else to report (maybe about new upcoming jet models) apart from the Saab Gripen crash?

Supposedly around 200 lbs AUW and a AMT Nike running 784 N or 176 Lbf thrust, turbine alone was about 22k euro ex vat.

Thanks, no wonder it fell apart. Half size at 200 pound? Just think how many tons is the full size one! Someone did a pretty lousy job at MOP-ing it! Good luck next time.

There is nothing wrong with wood as long as the structure is built to the correct specification. How do you think they make full size aircraft made of wood stay in the sky????

Found some nice video of the B2 Stealth Bomber. Very interesting to see it being demonstrated. Does not look easy to fly.

I love to see how many "wooden jet fighter" models at 1/2 scale with powerful turbines of today would last doing knife edge manoeuvre. Good luck.

Don't be so sure. Mick Burrel had the fin of his Airworld Hawk separate and the fin mount of my Airworld Hawk cracked, I Was lucky not to lose it. The vertical fin former was made of rubbishy 3 ply. It's now much bigger and stronger aircraft grade 5 ply. Both of my Aw Hawks were similarly strengthened in this way and are now trouble free.

I received no reply from AW when I passed on my findings.

I also came very close to losing my SkyGate Hawk, too, on its first flight due to fin/ rudder flutter even though I had considerably strengthened and stiffened the fin mount.

Details are are in the latest RCJI.

+1 on the AW comment. My experience mirrors David's both in technical content and attitude of the company.

To be sure, the folks at AW make beautiful airplanes, but seem to have little engineering capability or skill. I lost one of their big Panthers due to elevator flutter (both surfaces departed in flight .. it was only powered by a 160).

I learned from several others who had similar experience with the AW Panther (I found 5 people who had lost their planes this way) that this is a "well known" issue.

When one of their reps contacted AW about it they reportedly said "that airplane is done, we have no plans to change it". And apparently no interest in an AD on their website to warn people. Hard to feel good about a company with that sort of attitude. No company is perfect, but the good ones respond responsibly to resolve issues for their customers.

I have owned several AW Mig 21's over the years and they were tanks maybe I just got lucky.

Back and unloading from JP 2016, one of the best years in the 14 we have done. Weather was good all weekend and it was great to catch up with friends.
2.16 am here, so need to get some sleep before I'm back in the office soon!

John, I think there may be an error in the youtube caption, that is no bigger than and possibly smaller than a eurosport, and it has a single pipe.
