Default Reliable RX Lipos for jets

Can anyone recommend another brand of reliable 2s receiver lipos besides Thunder Power? They are not keeping up with the current demand and I am tired of waiting. I have looked into Spektrum, JR, and Powerbox, but the cost is enormous.

Thanks!

When I use LIPO for a turbine jet is thru a powerbox type device. Typically i use two of them, so I have never worried about brand preference. If possible I get a car pack since they have a hard shell that is easier to secure to the plane.

We have very good experience with Jeti Li-Ions Rx packs.

Jeti Power Ion RB receiver battery pack comes equipped with built-in over-charging (Voltage higher than 5V/cell), and over-discharging (150A) protection circuits. One of the biggest advantages of the Li-Ion cells is the mechanical resistance due to reinforced metal casing.

Yes, I will also be using a pair of packs for a Spektrum 12ch powersafe setup. There is redundancy if one batt fails, and the likelihood of both failing simultaneously is minimal.

thanks for your reply!

Yes I have considered Lion as well. Structural integrity is something I did not consider, but is significant.

I use two, 2S 1750 Rhino LiPo packs into a Smartfly Turbo or Super Reg. I have NEVER had a problem with a bad Rhino LiPo pack in this application. I use one 2S 3700 Rhino pack for my ECU (JetCat) power as well. They are inexpensive from HobbyKing.

Looks like a very reasonably priced alternative that is worth considering. Might be a great option for the light and afterburner ring systems which require good 2 to 3 amp batteries. Thanks!

I use spektrum receiver packs and powerbox. Have them in all my valuable planes. Never had a problem with them, which is not true for some of the cheaper stuff I have used in my not so valuable planes.

I have used the Glaciers 5000 mah 2s lipo with the Smartfly turbo reg with no issues, and also used the Glacier 2300 mah 2 cell A123.

Jeti also has some 2100 mah and 2700mah 2S Lipo receiver packs in addition to the Lithium Ion packs they sell. http://www.espritmodel.com/jeti-rece...v-li-poly.aspx I've used them in a couple of airplanes and they seem to be quite good. For a plane that I wanted to use 5000 mah 2S pack I used pulse.

Actually, I use them for my light systems too. My Eurosport uses 3 1750 packs - 2 RX and 1 light system, and one 3700 pack for the ECU. Same for my L-39. My ME262 will be using two 3700's for the RX, and two 5000's for the ECU's - but in this application, I needed the nose weight, so why not carry it in batteries instead of lead...

Again, the RX and ECU's are such low-current applications that the batteries are not stressed at all. As long as they are properly maintained and balanced, their reliability is great.

Hi Wayne, jeti does not make or sell lipos. Those are some other lipos that the USA distributor is putting his shop label onto, and since his shop name includes the word "jeti" it is misleading you into thinking they are jeti branded products.

I use Jeti li-Ions for radio and for the turbine, simply to reduce the risk of lipo fire at home.

I've been using the Jeti Lion 5200mah for some time and never had any problems.

Ok, still, very reasonably priced and seem to work perfectly fine..

I wont put a lipo in my jets since their is no need for it in my opinion. The only thing that gets lipos on my planes are small electric planes that need the power.

I use LIFE packs so the fire risk goes down some.

For the light ring I use power from the 3 cell LIFE ECU battery in 3 of the planes I built and it works fine. No need for en extra battery. Also Barry at kingtech sells good LIFE packs for a good price. We use them in all our planes.

I have a Booma RC 3s LiFE 4500maH pack for my K210. Maybe I could use it also to power the AB ring? It is only on for very short periods of time. It's the Detail4scale AB ring.

I've used A123's since day one, zero hassle. Taildraggerrc.com is my source. If Lipo is a must for whatever reason, brand usually isn't a big deal besides a sticker in my opinion for the most part.

I definitely like A123 / LiFE batteries, the only problem I have is charging them with my cellpro chargers. They have A123 presets for certain capacities only. While you can change the charge rate, I can't find a way to change the charge capacity. Not sure if this matters or not.

I use Cellpro 10S and a 10XP and have no issues. As long as the voltage is correct, which it will be if you select A123, use your balence lead and set an amp rating in which to charge, autopilot from there on out. I've also used other chargers LiFe function to charge A123's but I honestly prefer the cellpro. Had them for a long while and they keep on ticking.

That seems to work well on my Lifesource rx batteries on 2 of my jets. The BoomaRC ECU pack has some kind of self balancing circuitry in it, so when I charged it on an unbalanced preset, I got an overvoltage alert.

I gotcha. I can see how that would be. I try to stay away from any integrated circuitry. I may be old school, just seems like another point of failure in a fairly simple system otherwise.

Just set 1C or 2C for you charge rate and it does a good job of figuring the charge rate for any reasonably sized A123 pack..

Getting my first jet together. Following the advice of several local jet flyers here and installing 2 A123 batts to receiver(although jet instructions say 1 batt), one lipo to ecu.

But I have to tell you, I just installed some hv servos and a 2s 1250 batt in my 3d plane, me likey lottie. And the surprising fact is they don't use near the juice I thought they would. I could probably get 10 flights on the flight battery before I need to charge (though I won't push it that far). Still the thing that I don't like is having to storage charge them at the end of the day. But in the future I can see equipping my next jet this way. The increased power and speed of the servos is addictive.
