Default All new Merlin M70XMBL

http://www.jetsmunt.com/wp/m70xbl/

Jets Munt have announced the new M70 XBL and will be showing it at JetPower for those lucky enough to be there.
This engine is 70N thrust out of a case size 75mm dia and weight of only 600 grams

This is all with Brushless starter motor and brushless pump.

The overall size is slightly smaller than the Wren 44 and less weight but produces all that power!

Yet again Gaspar produces something truly exceptional. I have put my name down for one!

Interesting to read its fully programmable in thrust output so the users can dial in what they want - 30-70N

Wow, 100g lighter than the K45 and 60% more thrust. I want one!

Well, that's been doable for long, if not by rpm limit via the throttle stick

How ever this is one of few engines that impress me with a huge leap from the competition. Been waiting for this a long time as the Wren 44 been the standard for too long in this can size.

Is this the one that was initially presented (shown at shows) as a 45 N motor?

Thank you for sharing the information. these would make a perfect power plant for Small Skymaster A10. Exciting stuff.

Can anyone tell me what the typical tail pipe exit diameter would be for this turbine at full power?

Inner pipe diameter I mean

I assume it would be like P60 or P70 as it pushes the same amount of air to generate the trust.

Yes what might that be? I have never had a full bypass install with a turbine that small

My guess is that the efflux velocity is much higher for the Merlin than a P60 or P70 and that's where it gets its thrust.

I run a 46mm pipe on my Kolibri T50. That adds 0.5lb or push when testing static.(54N installed) Usually people uses too big pipes, such as 46mm for a P20.

So Henke you would run a 46 mm ID pipe at full power with this motor? What kind of bellmouth? (No bypass this time).

Does this turbine have the in-flight restart?

Wren produce a series of nice pipes. Would the Wren 44 Gold pipe be OK, or should one go for the MW54/70/80/SS/100 size pipe for the M70XBL?

There's a dimensioned diagram on Wren's website which everyone can download as a .pdf (link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4u...NDdVA1MmM/view ) and which I'm copying here as a low definition jpg for a quick look:

Maybe John Wright, who I understand had a hand in the design of these pipes, could advise us, please. In any case, you have the engine on order John, so what will you do for a pipe?

I will make my own pipe as I have the materials and a spot welder. I will probably opt for a size between the 44 and 54 maybe 65mm diameter instead of the 62mm and the rest sized accordingly.
I am sure it would work fine with a 54 pipe but the 44 one may be a bit small.

Thanks John. It'd be handy if Jets Munt could give us all some advice too, or maybe that'll be in the engine manual.

Price looks quite good too - but would have been REALLY good but for that wretched referendum!

Time to dig my Grummania Su27 out of the roof, would be incredible with one of these fitted. I think Vaclav at Savex will also become busy with his L39 sales!!
