Mmm its a big model to get going (I know its clean) with a 100 I don't see you getting much over 6 minutes which is not long enough, I like long flights, but 8 minutes is a sweet spot minimum. Realistically, if the tank is 2.5ltrs you can only use 2.1 as they look quite long tanks and 400cc slushing around is nothing in the bottom.
I guess it depends what the actual capacity is! Most manufacturers are way off on the quoted capacity!

I have a customer who ordered one and just bought a P-100Rx from us for it, be interesting to see what he gets flight time.

Since no one has posted in over a month I wanted to share my newest addition to my jet family! First off, the word "Mini" shouldn't be used on this jet! This is a big jet for a 100N! For size comparison, it's next to a 1.7m JTM XXX and a 1.75m JTM L39. As expected the build quality is superb and the finish is beautiful! I'm installing my JetsMunt Merlin 100 XBL in it. Should be a fun jet!!!

Congratulations on the new mini diamond... Is this the "carbon version" which they had available for immediate delivery - it was in this color??

My Friend (DrV) and I we got each a Mini Diamond in "Carbon Version" Mine is the racing Red and DrV is the White version. They were just delivered to the "Rocket Factory" in Melborne for assembly. We will be powering them with JM M140XBL. We did not get the retracts from AD (Eric). We are waiting for Gaspar (Xicoy) to develop electric retracts and brakes for the Mini Diamond.

A third Mini Diamond (Red in Fiberglass) is on its way to be delivered to the "Rocket Factory" for another friend of mine. I'm sure Danny will shortly post a "build thread" for the Mini Diamond.

Very nice! The Diamond is so unique, I think you either love it or hate it!

This was the one that they had for immediate delivery but it is the "Gold Racing" (Fiberglass). I personally get concerned with radio reception with an all carbon fuse. In my heli days, Carbon Fuses caused many a problem. Either way, this is a solidly built jet. All of the woodwork is either 3/16 or 1/4 ply. Every component is solid. I too am waiting for the electron retracts!

I love my white racing scheme diamond. Sometimes in the evenings the visibility on the white one is a bit sketchy. I was wondering if people have installed lights on theirs? I can't think of a dramatic lighting configuration that will match the dramatic looks of this airplane. Any ideas?

You can look at this link for an idea of what they do with the big diamond. Enjoy

Thanks for the link. Quite an interesting set of lights. It would be nice to see pics of someone who has installed them... But great idea.

Although this is a fairly uninteresting video you can get an idea what the light look like.

Just wanted to share something that took me by surprise unpacking this jet. AD does a great job of only shooting pictures of the Diamond (all colors except white) from the right side. Because of this, I never noticed that the servo hatches aren't body colored! They are plain white ABS plastic. On the white schemes, its blends in but will be noticeable on any other scheme. At first I was just planning to have the gold paint matched and paint the covers but that would of been risky since its ABS (I was afraid my paint would eat up the ABS). So my flying buddy suggested that I use 3M 1080 Carbon Fiber vinyl to cover them. I must say, I'm pleased with the result. For those of you that aren't familiar with this product, Its a high quality, 3D textured vinyl that is used on cars. Its hard for me to see the difference and of course, this is much more economical.

In the auto industry we paint ABS parts all the time. If you go to a auto paint store they can mix you up a batch of paint that will work on abs.

Thanks for the info! After doing research, enough people scared me off that I looked for an alternative The great thing with vinyl is that I can always take it off and paint down the road.

That is pretty disappointing. That is the type of thing you expect on cheap planes.

I ran into this small issue while prepping the model for servos. The horns are all different and they aren't identified in the manual. After a call and email to AD, this is what they confirmed. Hopefully this will help others with their build

To keep this thread going I wanted to update everyone on my progress over the holiday break.

1. All main servos were installed (Hitec HS-5087 MH)
2. All heat protection installed in tail
3. Intake trimmed to fit Merlin 100
4. Tank had mounts glassed in and painted to match fuse
5. All Servo Harnesses completed (Powerbox Servo wire with MPX connectors)
6. Awful "Jet Cat" logo removed and replaced with "Jets Munt
7. Lots of work with my vinyl cutter (Logo on tank, Jets Munt on fuse, Chevron Pattern on bottom, Diamond Logo on Nose Cone.

Getting closer!!

The pipe and tank mounts are very clean - looks great!

Just curious but is the 5087-MH the recommended size in that bird? I like those servos myself but in a much smaller air frame.

Believe or not, yes it is the recommended size. Because of the custom mounts, you can't fit anything else. They're only a couple of servos that meet the torque and size requirements and the Hitec's are one of them.

This question also reminded me that I needed to share some finding about the recommended servos. In the manual, AD suggest using Graupner DES 567 MG (7kg = 97.23 oz-in). I looked around and couldn't find a servo with that size (1.16x.47x1.16 in) that would produce that kind of torque. So, I went to purchase the Graupners from Graupner USA and they had different specs that were lower for the same servo (4.2kg / 58.33 oz-in). So after talking to Graupner, I discovered that the Europeans measure torque over a different radius and for the US, that servo actually puts out their published numbers. All of this resulted in me using Hitec's which and i know and trust and they have a slightly higher torque rating and are HV.

BTW, the MKS 6130 won't fit into the mounts since the mounting tabs are setup for a slim wing and not a normal servo.

MKS 6130 is a slim wing servo, but we are not using the plastic servo mounts but cutting carbon versions.

That should be nice! The MKS is definitely a much nicer servo! Are you just cutting flat plates or are you molding covers with the hood?

Also, I just noticed if you get the MKS 6130H, they will fit into the stock holders

Unfortunately the 6130H do not fit the stock mounts, at least not as good as I'm willing to accept. So we decided to go with the standard 6130 and manufacture custom mounting plates.
