Look what showed up today! Now I have every nut and bolt for this jet. The only problem is I don't have the jet! LOL. It should be here in the next month. Anyway this Cheetah SE should make the Flash an incredible performer. That extra thrust (36lbs.) will really come in handy for grass field operations. I am expecting this jet to be a great grass field jet with those trailing link struts and all this power.

nice dom. those jet centrals are nice especially with the new ECU's . just be aware i was told by a rep that they are working through some ECU issues . not trying to put the fear in you and i'm not sure what's going on . they may even worked through them by now. that was a month ago. Also , i picked up a NIB jetcat p-140RX it's be sitting on a shelf for a few years but never run . i haven't heard anything negative about them either . it's got all the new stuff that the next models have like bus fuel pump and v.10 ECU. I talked to Todd at DW and sounds like they are doing good with the jetcat service. they are even opening up another service center in VA. to service the east coast better.I trust you'll be flying with us at the airport this summer? i should have my viperjet good to go once i get my shop remodeled. I do plan to fly with you a lot this summer. That was a major decision point in buying this jet! Just wondering how it will all work out with the Jumpers though. I a m sure you will love that 140RX. Is it an RXI or just RX?

On Marks recommendation I purchased one of the Scratch and Dent Pilots from Dreamworks. It had some minor peeling of the decal on the helmet (hence the scratch and dent sale) but that was no concern to me as this pilot "made the Team" and was getting new threads!

So if you remember my flash is coming in the Thunderbirds colors so this pilot needed a makeover. I studied some photos on line to get an idea of what the Thunderbirds uniforms looked like. I wanted mine to look similar but I was not trying to duplicate it. I glued the helmet and mask in place with a bit of CA and Goop.

Hi Dom,
I'm absolutely sold on gyros , rather flight stabilization systems, for jets and even some prop models. At the last jet rally in Hamburg, PA we had some severe crosswinds.
I spotted for a guy with a gyro stabilized Boomer or Shok Jet and his flight was like in calm conditions but still it was windy. I decided to fly immediately after and my non-gyro Boomer was like in a washing machine. On landing it almost went knife edge but I luckily recovered and landed okay. That experience sold me. Also I've flown the AS-3X E-flite jets (MiG and mini Habu) in some serious wind and the stabilization worked marvelous. I plan to install gyros in all my jets. There's a learning curve for setup but once mastered you'll never go back. Best luck on your new UF and hope to see you at the 5th Annual Highland Jets in July.

Thanks for the feedback on gyros. I never gave them much thought.
I hope I can make the rally this year. I just need to be sure it does not conflict with Oshkosh. I fly my Cessna into Frankfort Highland on occasion and I am always hoping to see you there.. Let me know when you will be there and I maybe I can stop by.

Awesome thread Maj Woody. Keep it up. One thing I want to mention is that I have had a classic flash without a gyro and now an UF with a cortex gyro. I always thought gyros are not needed in our jets and especially in the Flashes. After flying one with a gyro and one without, I would not have any future jets without a gyro. The gyro makes the very stable and a good flyer even better and enjoyable. The cross wind and bumpy air is no longer an issue. Try one and you will be a believer. I have a gyro in my Ultra Flash, BVM Bandit MKII, BobCat, and even my Mini Avanti.

Thanks for the feedback. I do enjoy doing these build threads. This thread may go cold for awhile till my Flash arrives since I am running out of things to do without it. I may be able to get some work done on the gear however.
By the way I was never in the Military. The name Major Woody was given to me in 1993 by a fellow Jet Modeler and Club Member named Richard Brooke. He borrowed the name from a Beavis and Butthead episode named "Be all you can be". Once he started calling me that it stuck and others called me that too.
