Hi Maj. Woody,

This would drive me a little nuts as well. Glad they're vinyl and easy to correct, beautiful jet. thank you for sharing.

It would seem there will be a few more T-Bird F-16's this year.

how would you plumb the vents if using the saddle tanks? I'm trying to decide if I want the wing tank or the saddle tanks. the saddle tanks hold more but is it all usable?

Fuel in the saddle tanks is all usable and much less hassle than the wing tank to live with. The vents are plumbed the normal way with equal length tubing up to a T-piece before exit/overflow. The feeds are done the same but goes to the vent of the fuselage main tank.

Cheers,

Jan

Yep its just how Jan has described it. One exception for this setup is that the T fitting is not required. The main tank has two vent nipples. Each of those will go to one of the saddle tank clunk nipples. This is a less restrictive setup. The two saddle tanks are equivalent in capacity to the one wing tank. But as noted earlier, its less hassle.

Hi Scott. I kind of actually just started two nights ago! I have been enjoying my new snowmobile and managed to get 978 miles on it this season. The warm temps have all but ended the season so I am now switching gears to building mode.

Ok so back to building! Having painted all the linkages and the seams on the stab, I am ready to install the elevator servos and linkages. By the way here is how the LE on the stab turned out after my airbrush work. In the end, the juice was not worth the squeeze on this. I will be leaving the wing and fin seams alone (at least for now).

I am using the recommended JR 8411 servos and JR HD servo arms. After centering the servo and finding the the side of the servo arm that brought me closest to center, I cut off the the opposite end of the arm and sanded it smooth with my Dremel Tool. I put a drop of thick CA on the servo arm screw for extra security.

The servos are attached to the composite covers via aluminum brackets and machine screws (painted of course). These come pre drilled and tapped for the recommended JR servos which I have. Well my frustration started when I realized the holes between my "recommended" servos don't line up with the holes in the aluminum brackets.

After enlarging the pre drilled holes on the composite covers, I secured the aluminum brackets to the covers using Loctite on the screws. Here you can see the painted screws to good effect.

Were you able to order the jet tech tanks just main and saddle or did you have to buy the wing tang also.? On their website it shows main and wing or all four but not the main and saddle

I had to elongate the holes in the aluminum brackets so the holes in the servos would line up. Having done that, I now had to secure the servos to the brackets with nuts under the bolts. Out of 8 holes (between the two servos) I actually had one line up so that did not need a nut. I used Loctite on all the bolts.

I e-mailed Gary with my request and he put this package of saddles and main tank together for me. If I opt for the wing tank later he is only going to charge me the difference between what I paid for the 3, and the full set.

Next I glued in plywood doublers in the location of my servo mounting screws using thick CA, followed by thin CA and accelerator. Be sure to sand the gluing surfaces inside the bay since they may have some buildup. Mine did.

Drill a hole in the upper skin to pass your servo wire through. This will later receive a rubber grommet.

Some trimming of the recessed ledge will be necessary to clear the aluminum brackets.

I found it far easier to pass the servo wire through the grommet before installing the grommet in the upper skin.
