CJM HE-162 Build
#5
I was thinking the same only because I have a Kingtech K100 currently in a Navy Cat that will likely get retired. Although it seems like it would be fairly overpowered.
Looking forward to pictures.

I too am interested. I have acquired a 'built' one that I will be stripping down and rebuilding. Mine is VERY heavy and I know it can be much lighter, some of this weight comes from poor building and some from the very heavy fuselage. The plane sold with either a larger wing and a scale wing. Mine was made with the larger wing and as far as I am concerned the scale wing is really too small if it comes out heavy. I do also have the scale wing foam cores. The model I have did apparently fly with an AMT Mercury in it, though not sure how it got off the ground! I have acquired a new tail section which I will use to build a light weight tail, otherwise I would need weight up front.

I have one with a edf dynamax. Probably has 15lbs of thrust and weighs 18lbs. Flies great. Recommend ditching the cjm main gear if your weight is above 15lbs. My upper housings bent on most landings. I have robart 630 uppers with the cjm struts now. Needs a repaint over the winter.

I have the CJM electric retracts. My wing "looks" short, there is a lot of servos and wood plates that are not needed anymore in my opinion. Just because technology has changed so much since this model was built. For example there are 3 gas tanks in the plane. I would think 1-112oz. with a uat should be more than enough. A 112oz tank is 10inx4inx5in. I'll have the gears in this weekend.

For you guys that have the model built. How is the wing spare mounted inside the fuselage? The wings are bolted from the bottom with two screws in the "C" channel.

The wing spar is bolted to a former in the fuse. Not sure what wood plates and servos you are talking about. the plans show glow ducted fan so you have a throttle servo and maybe a retract valve servo you could get rid of. Not sure what wood plates you can get rid of.

I'm dropping the rudder servo, air tank, throttle servo. I'm going to build a compartment for electronics in the gun bay area and use the door to access it.

I'm using two slim wing servos(sail plane) in the rudders. Original plans show pull-pull setup which I don't trust at all with a turbine, but to be fair the kit was ment for the ducted fan setup.
Im using HS-7115TH Hitec

Not a belcrank kinda guy either. Mine has two mini servos at the base of the verticals. The thin wing servos didn't exist when my plane was built. The canopy is used as the hatch for the receiver switch and to load batteries. The top hatch is still for access to the fan.

I am in the process of building a sport jet before tackling the He162 and will use the KST DS 125MG for most surfaces. This is the same type of thin wing servo but 7.0 Gm.Cm , twice the power of the Hitech one at half the price.
I see no reason why these wouldn't do for the elevator with one for each half. Yes the newer servos can make installation a lot easier and lighter than the old days.

That's a big change. What are you doing with the cjm kit? Good luck with the giant build. Assuming that the cjm is representative of the type it should fly very well. Just have to be careful on go arounds. The high mounted engine pushes the nose down at slow speeds high throttle settings.

I'm going to try and sell the full kit at a local swapmeet on the 28th. The new kit isn't that much bigger than this one. I feel this would make a better EDF than a turbine jet. I'm in contact with a forum member who has built the kit that I am getting. I'm going with MKS747HV all around on the new one.
This is the Modelcity HE-162 1/3.5 scale
Wingspan 78.75 inch
Langth: 101 inch
Weight dry: 28lbs-33lbs
Turbine 22lbs to 39lbs thrust
