Nice job on the doors Shaun. I haven't tackled those yet, but i did pull the fuse out and hope to get back to my build now. Your thread has been good motivation.
i'm getting close on the scale gear details. Just a tweaked a couple parts and should start putting a set together to document for instructions in the coming weeks. There is a lot happening in the gear but that's what makes it so unique to the hornet and so fun for scale geeks like us.

Buck,

THANKS A MILLION!

Sean,

Nice! Any ballpark on pricetag?

I got some more work done. Got the steering hooked up and test-fitted the Brian Sauers detail stuff on the mains. I started doing the filling on the fin-tip joint with this Icing stuff. This stuff sands GREAT! I also cut out the flap pocket on one wing, got it lined with thin ply and glued in the servo mount. After that, I've gotta grind a hole in the ply lining I just glued, then bore a tunnel for the servo lead to intercept the existing tunnel for the aileron servo. The flap linkage will be almost totally concealed by the scale flap hinge.

Shaun,
how's progress? I'm still at the mundane wing build stage but have broken up those steps by fine tuning the gear details. Should be putting a set together shortly then will post some pricing and finished photos. Also reworked my retractable boarding ladder.
Keep posting, it's motivating! Thx.

Starting to look like a hornet, been making progress on the wings. Just think, One day months and months from now, after a ton more work, I'll have this at an ARF stage....

Cool Sean, BTW where do you get a table top like that? Is it very flat?

Thanks guys. Matt, i got the table from u-line. I picked up a number of benches with the composite wood top, but for this one i went with the maple. It's super heavy but nice. I wired a number of the legs with electrical outlets which is handy.

LoL proof positive all you need is thrust to fly, and a stick of big red.

Pretty famous story of an F-8 Crusader get shot off the cat with the wings still folded up.. Pilot rocked the wings and wacked them down into place, but it apparently messed up the wing.. Got it down OK though.

The F-8 has multiple folded-wing-flight stories. http://mofak.com/Night_Infamy.htm

I doubt I will ever build a Yellow twin-18, but this thread is thick with excellent techniques to be used on some of my other projects and restorations...

Yes, buddy, they got here just when you said they would. Funny thing, the part I needed was the only part you had already cut away...

I'll get em back to you. I'll stick something in there for the postage, too. Thanks again, bro!

Hey Guys!

I started a new job (in a 180 degree career turn) and the adjustment's been kicking my ass plenty. I'm back to work on the bird, though, and will post some pics soon.

For those of you who've built this plane, how did you make the wing-fold hinge bump? I'm trying to think of a simple way to add that.

Sean,

WHOA. DO TELL on the folding wings!
