Klass Kote for painting Jets?

Hi Dave,
I've used Klass Kote with older traditional guns, HVLP guns, and air brushes. I generally thin a little bit more than they suggest but I'm sure that their recommendations are very good starting points. I'm very happy with the results and will continue to use their paints.
Wishing you all the best in 2017!

I have used Klass Koat, Hobby Poxy, and also K&B back in the day. I feel that it is an extremely heavy paint, due to being epoxy. Nothing or very little evaporates. I have switch over to Omni/PPG auto paints in two stage. If you mess up, easier to sand off then an epoxy paint too.......ask me how I know. So, since both of them have fumes, I would get the right respirators and use car paints Omni/PPG or Nason. On a normal jet, epoxy can add more then a pound+. The guys who really pay close attention to the weight detail can tell you exact numbers.

He uses Nason which is an Axalta Coating Systems product.
I still have cans of Hobbypoxy and K&B(primer & bases) and use the Klass Kote products interchangeably with them.
Never had a problem with the paints intermixing. The Klasskote gives a much glosser finish even intermixed.
However, as mentioned it's a heavy paint so it's best used for accent colors and detailing. I never epoxy base or
clear coat the entire plane. I've reduced up to 100% for detail work. Really good paint with or without clearing!

On my scale jets I now like using water based paint from lowes. I get the correct FS number for the color I need then match it to some testors paint then have that color scanned at lowes and get it in the best quality flat exterior paint. Best part is its very easy to work with also. After markings are on I use water based minwax clear spray to protect the markings. I have not tried a high gloss paint job using this method and if I was doing one would probably use conventional paints for a high gloss job.

I've used Klass Kote to paint a 1/6 F-16 many years ago and it worked great. I also used their matte clear. I was very happy with the results. I'm using their matte clear for another jet project this spring.

I used Klass Kote on my last scratch built sport jet project called Sabre XLT. It's old school wood and foam construction. It gave me a tough shiny coat without a lot of paint work. I sprayed the inside of the fuse to fuel proof the wood from the usual Kero and smoke oil spills. I'm a rank amateur painting and it was fairly easy for me to spray. 1 to 1 mix and thinned about 30 to 40% after that. Harbor Freight HVLP 1.8mm gravity fed gun.
I use it to fuel proof and decorate my equipment trays and formers in the fiberglass ARF jets also. I like the stuff.
