Default AD Scorpion: Winter project #2.

Getting started on winter project #2, AD Scorpion from AltecareRC. Now that AD has moved production to Czech Republic, the build quality is very good. Paint scheme looks cool too. Will be powered with a Behotec 180. Guided by Jeti Duplex.

Ok, I have not seen these on my previous Scorpions... Anyone know what they are for? Found them taped to the tray in the nose section.

Thanks,

Jim will you do the fixed stab with elevators mod on this one too? I can already see you ripping up the skies with this new Scorpion!

Pretty weak, starting a build with "I don't know what these are for," I say leave them out and eventually you'll find a need for them.

Nope. Going as designed with stabilators. The reason I did the fixed stab on the previous one was because it was an old airframe with worn out pivot blocks.

And yeah, I'm looking forward to accelerating verticals. ;-)

They were not part of the three previous Scorpions I built, and are not mentioned in the "current" manual. Figured I'd ask first.

And yeah, if no one knows, then they get left out until something shows up that says "put me here". ;-)

Love the looks of that model. I tried to buy a small one (e Scorpion) a few years ago, but was told they were being discontinued, and the only one they had left was a paint scheme I didn't like.

I have always wanted to build this plane. The e version would be perfect for the K45's I have. Wonder if they would start production again if people put deposits??

Looking forward to watching your build.

Jim, Question, I have one still in the box from three years ago, which is part started, when I bought mine there was take of adding gear doors to the next version, V3 I believe, does your SS have gear doors?

And yes looking forward to watching your build for any ideas, especial with the servo configuration for the elevators.

No gear doors.

You mentioned "SS" in your post... Are you referring to the Super Scorpion? If so, I do not have that, I have the regular Scorpion.

Jim the base color of your Scorpion looks nice. Do you plan to add some trim color, either by paint or vinyl?

Nope. Not adding anything to the scheme. It already has some white trim and some faux-CF trim. Looks just fine as it is.

More 3D printing fun...

Made a jig to get the pipe/turbine centering and depth at least TLAR.

Wasn't keen on the way they wanted the air brake ram to be mounted, so came up with my own way. It also incorporates a couple of tabs to keep the air brake from closing too far.

Since I need two air valves (retracts and air brake) decided to stack them and save some space. Yes, there is enough room above the retract valve to get the air lines in without kinking them.

Also made a mount for the brake valve.

Still to come: Air tank mount, electronics mounts, ECU mount and fuel pump/soloniods/filter mount.

Yep, I'm having fun!

Nice! I have been having a blast designing and printing parts. I have filament and SLA printers. What material are you using here?

ABS at the moment. Once I'm out of that, will be giving PETG a try.
