Toledo is a long way from here. Not much with vendors happening yet anyway. this is a first time deal to test the waters and see how it comes out. Already got some support from www.pacificrcjet.com though.

15 days until HSJ ARE YOU READY????
So far I have gotten some Kingtech turbine oil from Pacific RC Jets (www.pacificrcjet.com) and some tubing and wire clips from Ultimate Jets (http://www.ultimate-jets.net/).
Who knows what else will come in before the event.

Hi Skip, will you guys have water extinguishers on site, pre-flighted and ready to go in case anyone needs it? (water is just for burning solids and typically not needed unless there is a crash).
I always bring my own CO2 and Halon but wondering if I can leave my water gun at home if there will be ones at the field to satisfy the turbine requirement for water extinguishers on the field. If not, no sweat, I'll bring my own too.
Thank you!

Just over a Week away. Skip is putting this thing on pretty much single handedly. I am in Reno as well and plan on being there Saturday morning. If it would help any out of town pilots I could fill a couple of 5 gallon fuel jugs with Kero and bring them. I only have room in my car for a couple, and may not be there until 8:00 or so Saturday morning, but if it would help anyone shoot me a PM.

I really appreciate all the positive comments and spreading of the word by the very few local jet guys we have. Hopefully we get as many as it looks like.
Let's see if Neal Smiley and other LA guys show up....They seemed pretty interested in Tucson.
I also have my CD now so if we have people to sign off hit me up.

Got my landing gear re worked with new o-rings today... I'll be planning to fly for sure Saturday. If I can, I'll be there Friday as well
Just as a side note, I've been buying my Kerosene from Sierra Fuel on Sutro and 4th for years. Just in case anyone from near or far needs kero at anytime. I've always had good luck there, always gotten good fuel from them.

Looks like the weather is going to slam the area all 3 days. They are calling for high winds gusting to 50 mph and tons of rain....so it looks like we are cancelling for this year, and maybe do something in the fall before next year in April... Everyone is always welcome to come to the RRCC field when in town...

Setting a Fall date of September 13-16
These dates coincide with the Reno Air Races that run September 13-17
The RRCC field is outside of the controlled airspace of the air races, so that is not an issue.
I still have the donations from the places listed above and may be able to get some more before the event.
The weather at this time is usually warm in the afternoons with a decent breeze, and nice calm cool mornings so the density altitude will be good for most of the day.
Plan to visit the Reno Air Races on the 17th. That is GOLD race day when it's break it or win. If you choose not to leave or visit the air races you can still fly on Sunday too.
As before there is dry camping on site, which is recommended, and I'm sure there will be people there on Sunday that can watch your belongings if you choose to attend the Races on Sunday. I may even spring for a day of private security for Sunday for people to attend the races if enough people are showing up.
Overall pretty much the same plan as before, and if I can get enough people registering by email to [email protected] I can see about some possible catering. Landing fee will $20.00 for all 4 days when you get there.
For those who wish to stay in a hotel/motel, www.booking.com allows you to do free cancellations, and it is advisable to book ASAP
I am going to run this through the club at the meeting tomorrow night so expect updates on Thursday.
This was talked about at the RRCC club meeting last night and is not the plan.

It's been some time since I went to Reno for the Air Races so I don't know if the situation is still similar, but at that time if you didn't have your Hotel/motel reservation, you would not find a place to stay. A lot of those places would start taking reservations for the next year right after the current year's races were finished.
You mention Dixie Jets; we have a President's Day Fly-In that's been going on for quite a few years now except it's not on President's Day weekend anymore but the weekend after. Reason? There are so many people in St George for that weekend, that guys who wanted to come to the fly-in could not get a room, so the event was moved back a week.
Just a thought if you're going to try and hold a Fly-In the same weekend as the Reno Races. You might want to do a bit of nosing around and see what reservation availability is for that weekend?

The air races isn't quite what it used to be as far as attendance, and without a major demonstration team announced it will be a bit of a slower year. There is also a bunch of dry camping on site at the RRCC field available.
There is still a bunch of places available. Most of the travel sites have rooms set aside they can reserve apart from the regular process. I just looked at booking.com and there are many places that are still available.
