Here is a question for the campers on the tarmac area.
Would it be worth while getting a main generator that would run all the campers during the week long event so individual generators would not be needed?
Lewis has looked into this however it is not a cheep date for the week, it turns out that the generator rental itself is not bad, it is the fee based on hours of run time that adds up, so we are looking at approximately 192 hours of run time.

So for example would it be worth $20 a day for the convenience of not running your personal generator?
The other issues is guys who won't be there all week, it would not be fair to have to pay for the entire week, but on the other hand the cost of the generator for the week is fixed and will need to be funded.
Ideas???

Hey Lewis I just ran into a similar issue, I logged into RCU with Google Chrome and it showed me as being logged in on RCU, however the edit buttons were missing from my posts. So I shut down Chrome and logged in with Firefox and all was good.

Rich,

I think it's a great idea, and I am speaking for a couple of guys concerned. One of the questions of concern is, do they provide or have a distrubution system with 30 & 50 amp RV plug boxes with cords extending away from the generator or is there just one big panel and everyone has to reach it ? I would think not everyone would have enough cord to reach a single distibution point, but if they had some length availible to reach out toward the campers then everyone coud get to it .. That's the logistics of that.... As far as the finance part, you would need to see what it cost for the unit and fuel for the specified time ( week ?? ) and then figure the cost per plug and have some kind of minimum # of days you have to pay, or just have a flat rate amount regardless of the number of days you stay. 50 amp guy's pay a few more bucks than 30 amp guy's. Again I think it's a great idea, we have done this is the past before and it worked out great. You just need a solid commitment from the campers involved and make it happen.. Most RV'ers I know will pay some money to run somebody elses generator before their own any time !!

Standing by, cord in hand !!

Default Generator for the Tarmac

Danno,
Three times a year, Anita & I attend events which have this scenario. One substantial Generator on site with several hundred feet of 50 amp power cable going to junction boxes strategically placed . From there, 30 amp power cord T'ing off going to each individual site.
We are limited to 30 amp due to the numbers of hook ups. This works very well. . .until someone decides to pull an increase load greater than 15% of the 30amp provided. BAM, its breaker reset time. All in all, a good system and works well. Important though is to confirm the Generator
provided will not be scheduled for maintenance during the event. You can imagine the reaction if this should happen.

Bottom line. . .$20 per day is a gift to save using your onboard genset.

Eric & Anita.

Is the fee quoted, $20, based on everyone hooking up regardless of the number of days they are staying hooking up? In other words, say the gen. is rented for 7 days, does everyone have to pay $20 a day for the entire 7 days. $140 If some don't chose to hookup, does the mean everyone else has to pay more to meet the 7 day fixed rate.
I know the $20 fee was just an example.
Did anyone get a quote on what the actual cost of gen would be? I think having that would help you making a decision on whether to pursue this or not

Diesel Generator For Jets Over Kentucky Week

Checked with Sunbelt Electric today, and their estimate for bringing out a generator and setting up the needed infrastructure, would cost on the average of $4000,00. We can do it, but it's going to be very expensive for those plugging in. Of course, 100% participation would lower costs for all. I'm checking on another source, and will get back to everyone on what I find. My estimate is that $160.00 to $200.00 depending on the number of campers taking advantage of the electric.

Here is somthing to consider, camping at KY Jets is free.
Camping at a state park in Pennsylvania with electric hook up (30 amp ) is $30.00 / night.
This seems like a no brainer.... but Lewis will need absolute commitment.
The other question will be how far away can the diesel generator be parked away from the campers... the noise could be an issue at night.

Anyone else getting a blank (black) picture viewer screen when clicking on some pics and other pics come up fine? For example Lewis' pics on post 246 all come up blank but his previous post # 242 all come up fine? Strange. Using Chrome BTW.
