Guess it depends on if you like old or new fighters?

None of the above. Skymaster F-15 or F-100... :-)

I guess the real question is which 1st? I think the F-4 flies more on rails, but 16's a lot more maneuverable. I've owned both from different companies, but haven't had either Skymaster.

I currently own a G2 Skymaster F16, and have owned 3 others,, they fly absolutely fantastic, I dont think think the phantom would let you get away with 1/2 of what the 16 will.

Agreed! How'd you like your gen1 16s? Is there a big difference between gen1 & 2?

2 of mine were gen 1 planes, they were strong and flew great. No complaints at all.
Sm says the Gen 2 is lighter, I call BS on that, all of mine have weighed in well over 40lbs. One difference is that the top access hatch is actually smaller on the G2, making putting the 3 fuel tank installation a PITA. The G2 the panel lines are much better and super accurate, the lines are even and consistent, they look fantastic. On all of mine the gear door cylinders did not leak and held air, but they are still not up to the task of holding closed when some speed is presented. If you go a full bypass setup I bet they would be fine, but I just run the lower bypass with the inlet duct. I replaced the cylinders on the others with larger 7/16 UP cylinders and that holds em closed. My current one is my favorite of all, flies like a dream and looks scale doing it (unlike the BVM-Jetlegend F16, which is NOTICABLY lighter). On all of mine the paint was really good, except my current one, It is GREAT, the factory did some weathering on it, and it turned out great. I am not saying anything about the F4, I have seen a few, and A buddy of mine is building one right now, and they are a badass for sure, but they do not fly the same, the 16 is an easier bird to handle than the F4.

Thanks Ronnie.. I'm working on a trade deal, & the guy is offering me my choice of gen1 16 & F-4. Tough choice IMO.

Get both. Ultimately it may come down to which one you think looks better. They both fly great.

They both fly great. However I love my Skymaster F4 the best of any jet I have owned. I am actually ready to do another one and have 2. I just need to sell something to have space to store. Yellow F18 Twin, Dan Gill panther, Feibao F15, Skymaster T38....One of those should give me space.

Good luck with your selection but I think you would be happy with either

Thanks Kevin! How many pounds of thrust do you think is good for the Phantom to fly/takeoff/go around nicely?

Another question to add to the conversation. How are the retracts on the 1/7.75 F-4? Well built and reliable? Or is there a better option? Thx!

My first F-4 had a P-200. My second has a K-210. A friend had one with a 160sx and it was anemic even at sea level. He put a K-180 and he was
much happier with the performance.

Thanks Dantley! He currently has a 36lb Rhino, & what he says corroborates everything you've just said. He said once on step 36lbs will push her, but the TO & 1st turn are a bit marginal. How would I go about finding out if the current existing fuel system & pipe are up to a 40-50 lb thrust turbine?

Fuel system is plenty for comfy 8 min with an old airstart Olympus. Unknown pipe capability, I went with a TAM pipe.

It did have more push with the P-200. Very noticeable in a vertical. The climb was unlimited with the P-200.

Really comes down to your flying style. I have had both as well.. The F16 is way more maneuverable at slow speeds, F4 is more of a fast mover. Both great flyers in there own way...

Thank you sir. It truly does seem like the answer is both. It looks like that's the way I am headed.

I was just talking to Dirk at Pacific RC Jets. He has a 1/7 phantom in stock. Camo I think.

I have the K210 in mine and love the power. I think you could go to as little as 180 and be happy. For me it handles the big block perfectly so go with a 200 class turbine of your choice would be my recommendation. Also the gear are great and have worked perfectly every flight No need to change. This is not the Xtreme arf gear maybe you are thinking of. These gear a well designed by Dr. Laikai and work awesome.

I too went with the Tam pipe. With Tams pipe my 210 had every bit of the performance of the P200 in the video. I have not flown with stock 200 class pipe so not sure about it
