They will most likely find a way to lift the turbine ban for the event being its "for fun"
My point on posting this was to show how ignorant a clubs leadership can be and how they use there position to discriminate and intimidation at a group that they feel is not the type of aircraft they enjoy be it 3D, turbines, warbirds, or pattern.

It kinda sounds like a set up as well. Have a "speed contest" against AMA rules and when something bad happens (which it usually does in speed contests) if will give him a reason to ban turbines.
I personally wouldn't fly at an event if I knew something dangerous (and against my AMA insurance) like that was going on.

I would have to say that this is pretty ignorant of the president of ARCA putting this speed contest out on facebook or any other open forum. But I don't personally think boycotting an jet event is really the answer either! Why persecute a entire club for something the president has done. If I was planning on going to the event I would just decline to participate in the speed contest. Jet Events are far and few as it is so I think making a statement by not showing up is like shooting yourself in the foot. I think if jet flyers showed up and everyone declined to participate in the speed contest he would get the message! I also wonder if he is actually the Contest Director for this event and if so he should be worried about getting a call from the AMA. Not good! Just my two cents

And I'm not asking that the Jet community boycott this event I'm only stating the facts and showing you guys how we are treated by this club...you can make your own decision to attend or not.

Again im not bashing him as I have never named him or the club and I am only posting a situation that has happened at my club dealing with banning turbines during a burn ban...that at times has another agenda to it.

I would imagine that their was no mention of a speed race when they applied for the sanction for the event. I think it is word of mouth or face book! And I agree it is hypocritical of a club to prohibit jets for everyday flying but then want to have a jet event. By the way I didn't steer this thread off course. I'm just replying to later posts

I think twice before flying in the middle of summer- especially if the wheat hasnt been harvested or if the wind is blowing more than 5-10mph.. as any fire that results can be a big mess.. A farmer last year had a wheel bearing fail on his combine fail last year and caused 5-6million in damages before the fire burned out. He was over his liability insurance limit and the insurance companies that paid claims to the surrounding farmers are lining up to take him to court. Most likely he will be losing most of what he has before it is over..
