On my F-18F main gear downlock spring was too strong and I stretched it out to weaken the downlock force... I'm using a mechanical valve for the mains to keep air pressure on them when on the ground and have a separate valve for the down lock cylinder to have it start the up cycle before the mains.

I found an f18 site that quoted mains wheels at 30 inch. likai says the mains are 126 mm dia x 5.75 scale on c/d = 724 mm / 25.4 mm = 28.5 inch if you pump the tyres up to 128 mm x 5.75 = 736 mm / 25.4 mm = 28.97 inch pump to 130 mm and scales out to 29.4 inch. i'm gonna buy one and the tyre size wont bother me one bit likai

Thnx for all your input Jim. You have been a big help.

Kieth I will fly it with some sidwinders on the tips and the belly tank. That is how the serial number aircraft I have was flown most of the time. I have markings ordered with paint masks to put the fighting Omar insigna on the belly tank.

Figured out how to install the saddle tanks and keep them removable for maintenance.

The factory I guess let the new guy drill the ordinance....

Also no wood installed into the wingtips for the rails. So had to dremel out squares and hysol some wood in.

Cool deal, the scheme I want is the same way for load out. Are you getting paint mask from tailor made?

to blackcat if you read back a few it was mentioned the shape of the tire would help. The tire is pretty close in size. That's why I mention using a 1/6 scale tire from the f16 wheel since it looks closer to the real tire. I'm not sure why Anton used a 1/5 tire in his above post.

Cockpit looks great as well, hope I get to see it in person this year still trying to decide on the D or F model. Tank idea is great by the way that was the one thing I didn't like about big f-15 was not being able to get to the saddle tanks for maintenance.

Boy you are flying through the assembly. Curious though, how did the fuel tanks fit originally? In that position they look like they would fit without modification unless they slide farther forward.
Keep it up and good luck with first flights. My buddy was the CO of that unit few years ago I'll forward him your pix.

thanks for the info, the landing gear and ordnance are points that catch folks eyes or at least mine anyway so any little detail adds to wow factor. After seeing strictlyscales new ordnance and the gear detail stuff coming the jet world is getting some crazy detailed stuff.

Been talking to Sean almost daily! He has been working on allot of scale details for this bird. More to come on that in a week or 2.

Back on the hornet.... Got the missile rails back on with the missiles refitted. Then started looking at the belly tank.... Its to big for the plane. Touching the nose gear for its touching the main doors also. Not happy. I guess they never actually fit it before. So I will see if the main gear will swing with the doors not fully open. If not then its time to mod the tank.

Also the leading edge fences look way to big and not the correct scale.

Gun it's really weird you mention the tank size I was looking at the SM website this afternoon of the c model sitting on the box with the ordnance on it thinking the tanks are really large. With your contacts maybe talking to SM they will listen to you. I try but they ignore me, maybe you or Dirk could have some luck. Is it possible the tanks are 1/6 scale, since they did make the c/d model a 1/5.5 scale to fit the larger gear of the e/f?
I had considered pulling the trigger so would have something to build before deploying this year but being a bit picky and anal I guess I will wait. I wanted bang my head against the wall a lot with my f-14.

Well if they where 1\6 scale they would be smaller not bigger. I will figure something out. Looks like the doors don't really need to open as far as they do. Might work.

Started moving onto other things. For the APU exhaust they just have an idention in the fuselage. So I got a big brass tube and made a proper exhaust.

Also started weathering the top.

So the gear works fine with the tank installed. Moving on with details.

Glad to see you don't have to cut up the cockpit like the f-14 to mount it in the jet. Good stuff!
