HiTech metal gear mini servo
Any one using hitech 5245 Mini metal gear servos in their jets?
I have a BVM F80 that I'm finally putting together. It's a Fas kit.
Recommended servos are JR 3425. The hitech seems very similar in performance.
Just less $..
Opinions? thank you.

You're better off with the JR servos, I used the 3421 mini
I had three of the mini HS, they didn't last long, even with light use and they're not smooth or precise, I also have ( present, they're been use right now ) two of the JR 3421s and those are working just fine, I got all five servos around 10 years ago, that right there tells you which servos you should buy.

Hi Bob, I was joking with you. Raffy just had a 5245 servo go bad on him before flight, but still is does not mean all 5245 are bad. I though Raf would see this and he'd comments.
BTW, Rafy is Ravill here.

Yeah, JR 3421 are no longer available and the JR 3711 isn't either.
I also made the mistake of buying hitec 5245's to use on my gear doors on my big F-86. One died last night. Thankfully, before the first flight.
I bought MKS 747's on advice of the Chief aircraft. The 747's are a little taller but similar in Length and width. And they have 5 times the torque, metal casing and a WAY more dependable servo (as people tell me).
A hitec 5245 on an elevator???!!!! And on a beautiful BVM F-80 no less?! No way, no how.
The 747's are ~$95 and the hitec's are ~$40. But on an elevator, you just can't put questionable servos on them.
Heck even JR 3421's have failed on me and I would NEVER trust them on an elevator. I know Bob recommends them for the elevator on Bandits, but sorry, not on an elevator.
So, don't get those hitecs.

I just bought 6 5245 servos for an electric plane.. one seemed to not center well during setup and i wrote it off to the pull pull cables seating in and stretching a bit.. and then it completely locked up on preflight before the maiden and let the magic smoke out. So i would not trust them for anything i really cared about.... i have used the 225 mg hitecs and the hobbico/tower hobbies re-branded 225 non digitals and abused the heck out of them for years and not had a failure..but I will not buy anymore 5245... I am going to shift towards the spektrum badged savox made servos for anything smaller than standard ...that way i can use my existing stock of JR aluminum arms.
