Default Smoke oil rate / does anyone recognize this pump

I am setting up a smoke pump for the first time. Can anyone advise me of the expected oil per minute on a JM 200XBL? Since I am catching the oil for now I can measure the rate. I know the ultimately test is with the turbine running. The pump does not like to run at low setting, I want to make sure I am not over pumping the oil from the start. Also wary of oiling the pipe ie fire. My pump and motor does not seem to run at a low setting and makes some unusual to me sound until I move the speed up. I guess compared to turning a prop an oil pump is a higher starting load. Also does anyone recognize this pump. There are no markings on it. It doesnt show very well but the only distinguishing feature is a flat side on the pump itself with mounting screw holes and perhaps the color and it is a brushless with an external ESC. I am running it off a LiFe battery 6.6 volts. The ESC is a Thunderbird, Castle, 18 ampI was programing the RX for an enable switch and then use the throttle for speed control. And especially to cut off the oil at low throttle settings. I cannot put two curve points side by side on my DX18 so there is still a ramp area the pump doesnt seem to like. I will attempt to incorporate an analog switch into the mix so it will go from 0 to say 20% instantly. Thank you

Charles

put it on a slider at first so you can figure out the optimum rate...then you can lock it in however you want.. I use usually half rate to preserve oil, but can smoke it out at full rate.. I use one stick from Todd.

Goose,
Thank you for your reply.
And if same Todd I know of I have their Super Stick 1. I just doubled checked the drawing on their net site and made sure I pointed the J away from the turbine.

I just copied the way they did it and made my own. Smokes great, and no fires inside the pipe anymore, yay!

Hello SA,
We may have met or at least walked by each other at MSAb, it that photo from there?
Yep I will likely convert to end of pipe oil soon after I finally test fly. Just because it makes a lot of sense.
How do you route the oil that far back, full length stainless tube?
Did you route oil tube outside the pipe outer jacket?
Thanks
Charles

Hi Charles, I'm sure we did cross paths, what a fun event!

I bought a 24" length of stainless tubing (the same diameter as the Dreamworks Stic) and modified the end like in the pucture, bent the tube 90 degrees then shoved it between the inner and outer pipe walls. I made a small bracket inside the jet to hold it in place so the thrust didn't push it out again and that's it. Pretty simple really. I've had smoke tubes both at the turbine and at the end of the pipe and I like this way much better. Just as much smoke without all the potential for issues. (And it's technically scale)

Good luck and show us pics of it working.

Default SA did you bend the front end of oil tube?

SA
Please post a picture of the front end of you smoke tube. Did you bend it away from the pipe after inserting between the inner and outer pipe to get the plastic oil supply line away from the pipe, heat? I am probably going to make a rear smoke tube, I just cant get past the risk and especially since my 83mm id pipe is on the small side for a 200N turbine. I already have to keep an eye on heat stress.

This is my bird during wt and balance. Yep, I finally noticed they misspelled Breitling. Please excuse the background mess.

I just bent it away from the pipe slightly and then secured it with my little homemade brace.

BTW, a clean garage is the sign of a sick mind, HA!

That's what I used until the tubing was far enough away from the heat, then switched to 6mm Festo tubing. Good luck!
