Jetpower 2017
#76
We arrived back from JetPower and unloaded the van before Sunday night (UK time) was over. Great JP for the Motors & Rotors team, was good to Finally fly the DerJet F-35 after 2 years of static display, we were really lucky with the weather for Saturday's flight since theire was little wind. As always I hardly had any time to look about, but the key things shown at this show like the PowerBox Core were a pleasant surprise. The JC and Vspeak fuel stations and other items shown to 'make fuelling better' were very clever...but a sledge hammer to crack a nut IMO. It will be interesting to see if people will follow the brief, lose their bubble traps and go plasma bags or felt clunks only as these systems dictate. Something that 'makes air bubbles' and then removes them is an interesting concept that I can only think was dreamt up in a bar!
i really hope the meeting next month allows JP to stay as it is so we can continue enjoying the best weekend of our year.

I hope someone video's the Saturday flight and not Fridays (2) ;-) When I took off with the overflow plugged!! emergency landing with 4ltrs of fuel for ballast...cross wind...it was not pretty :-)
Saturday was the best conditions I have flown it in.

I must say I was very impressed with my first visit. The organisation was excellent and there was loads to see.
The night display was absolutely incredible and even the 10-year-old pilot was doing things in the dark that I only dream of being able to do in the day!
Fingers crossed it returns again next year as I wouldn't like this to be my only visit.

A fair like jet Power in the USA would not work as the Chinese companies would not take the trip.

Dave should have connected via my Maglok system, it would have dropped the tank very quickly
Well done for a great save though.

Wasn't a ground tank, it was a 30mm piece of Tygon with the end melted together to stop fuel running down my leg while carrying it out...
We were due to fly second in the slot, but Aviation design had a problem with one of their models and asked us to go first, the rush to get started I forgot!

Finally got home from my Germany trip and first visit to Jet Power. A few observations for those who have not attended, particularly those on this side of the pond.
Jet Power is actually two simultaneous events. One is a vendor/trade show for RC jet enthusiasts and the other is an RC airshow for the general public. It makes economic sense to combine the two but it does create crowd issues for parking and in the display tents, particularly when it rains.
The trade show is fantastic for us jet guys and almost overwhelming with the number of jet, turbine and accessory vendors in attendance. The jet scene in Europe and Germany in particular is much larger than I realized. There are several jet and turbine manufacturers I have never even heard of. I have also never seen such a nice selection of small accessories like Festo fittings and other small hardware that numerous booths had for sale.
It wasn’t so great for buying other stuff due to VAT issues, inability of at least some vendors to take credit cards and I didn’t see that many “show specials”, except for some of the display jets.
I particularly enjoyed getting to meet and talk with some RCU folks like MarcS and Dave Wilshire and also manufacturers like Gaspar and the Demon Cortex rep. Also had a really nice conversation with the guys at AZ Aerosport. Not sure what their connection is with EA Aerosports here in the US but they’ve got the same logo and they had several Havocs on display.
Anyhow, here are a few pictures I took. Some are duplicates of others posted but I also tried to include a little more of the whole scene.

Here are a few from outside. The two big display tents are to the left along the runway and the crowd and food vendor area are to the right. A continuous 6' fence separates the crowd from the runway. Displays are one at a time and continuous. Of the ones I saw I was particularly impressed with the 3 F-104's in formation. The big L-39's were also cool with their flare dispensers.

Wow! Awesome pics!! And that video is worth seeing!
Oli, BV still manufactures some stuff over here.
My whole fleet is 100% BVM with only one jet (so far...), my BARF being made in thailand.
It is REALLY sad we don't have 1/10 of the awesomeness that is displayed over at Jet Power.

Craig, great to meet up and glad you enjoyed the show. I've been attending 10 years now, it's the only show I do and while they have some issues around congestion of vans and vehicles the overwhelming skill of the airshows and huge extent of accessories makes this such a great event.
I know Winnie has his work cut out to continue the show, lets hope they resolve the issues and the show continues for many years to come, it would be great to see more of you from Craig's side of the pond.
AZ is 'Azza' Stephens, he from my understanding has struck a deal with Scott and Pablo to distribute the Havoc and Shockwave in the UK and Europe, I think they will do well as both he and Sonny are very talented fliers who are young and very passionate about the hobby, the Havoc struggled a little at the show due to the weight restrictions of 25kg wet, but understand a smaller version is due for release imminently so this will be a big success I'm sure.
Fingers crossed for next year.
