Default MKS 777HV or Hitec D950 tw servo

Hi Guys,

Now that the JR 8911s no longer available, need to decide on some new servos for my new Ultra Bandit.
What would be the preferred choice and why? Have narrowed down to 2 servos but other options are welcome too.

Thanks
Chatty.

I've had nothing but MKS in my flying model toys for the past few years. Great product and great service from Thomas at MKS Servos USA. The HV777 are a bit taller than a standard sized servo. This can make them a tight fit in some places. The new HV777 A+ are standard sized and have even more torque. Great choice.

No comparison between the two. MKS is a far superior servo.

Go with the MKS, the Hitecs will have a jitter after a few flights because they will constantly be trying to find center.

Im a HiTec guy, but recently we used HS-7995s (20 of them) and had to switch them all to MKS as they were not handling 7.0V very well, they developed some sort of signal feedback. We were told HiTec was aware. Well, we junked 20 $180 servos. MKS held up fine, even on heavily pre-loaded conditions.

Im a MKS believer now.

I have used JR and Hitecs. Love them both. After the shorty supply of 8911's I have used hitecs only. I believe the new D950TW are 32bit tech. and have a super tight gear train with great centering. I am tempted to give these a try for my giant pitts special.

That's interesting. Every website I can find here in the US (including JR Americas) lists the 8911 as "discontinued". Unfortunately, JR's absence has allowed others to penetrate the market with more reasonably priced alternatives (such as the MKS 777). Even if they get their inventory ramped back up they may have a hard time selling for a premium as they did in the past.

I totally agree, once you see everyone successfully using another servo that works as good or better and costs less, the JR name won't be enough to garner the premium price tag anymore. There are many truths in business and one of them is you will never recover lost momentum in a product. I believe the momentum of the 8911 is lost.

What MKS servo is everyone using as a DS8411 replacement? Looking for it to be HV capable.
There seems to be a number of options available in the 150-200 oz.in range

Thanks

HV1220 is a good all around servo for jets.
HV777 A+ if you need something stronger
HBL599 if money no object

So between the Hitecs and MKS, preferred choice is MKS for most, how about between the 8911s and the 777?

Or I just use these if I need something under 277oz-in. Been using the brand for nearly a decade without one failure. But the are only 6.6v so you don't need lipos to worry about

No, the 1220 is like a 8511/8911 size 20mm wide. 8411 is 19mm wide.

You could use the smaller case MKS 747HV if mount size can be sorted.

I don't think you will find another 19mm wide standard servo like the 8411 but there are very few (if any) places you would need this today. Even the Ultra Flash stabs were changed years ago to let the 20mm servos fit.

Dave is spot on with the HV747. Great servo that fits just about anywhere and has plenty of torque for a lot of our applications. I've used them in the stabs of a few jets.

Default Futaba not in anyone's radar ?

I have used only Futaba BLS servos in all my jets. I have yet to have my first servo fail, develop any sort of slop or in any way manner or form disappoint me at all. Yes I acknowledge that this is an expensive servo relative to the others on the market however when we consider that the all up cost of say an ultra-bandit, without any servos, is well in excess of $ 13,000, the difference in prices of servos pales by comparison.

THE FUTABA S9177SV HV ????

I use futaba servos too after years of JR, mainly because of the relatively clean Powerbox/Sbus integration.

The servos are nice so far and they have a surprisingly wide selection. Rather expensive, I would say 20% premium for the BLS line. But with brushless they will probably last much longer, who knows

Matt has got the complete photo. When all of you shift to the power box radio system I wonder what servos you are going to use. I know that I will continue to use the top ranges of the Futaba. And also serves like THE FUTABA S9177SV HV. The servo has the best of all worlds including a relatively reasonable price, very high torque and high-speed. Metal gears and all the rest that you could imagine.

Holy crap! Chinese catching up.........was looking at chinese UAV turbines the other day...they are here my friend. Some of them have very good altitude performance, something most well known manufacturers lack. As reliable and easy to use as any other. Just a matter of time before they start popping up on HK.

Well if the price of 8911 and 777 were the same, what would be your preferred choice.
Heard 777 is a superior servo, but the 8911 has been rock solid for me over years.
ofcourse would not know any better unless we try something new.

Chatty.
