Hi,
Great video and flying there.
It is one full scale J29 "flying barrel" (flygande tunna) in flying condition that the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight fly with at airshows and such:
http://swafhf.se
On the main page if You wait a little You can se their J29 in the main photo window.
They have also a subpage for their J29:
http://swafhf.se/29-se-dxb.html
Just load the pages in Google translator to get text from Swedish to English.
It took 3 years, complete overhaul, to get this J29 flying again after long time storage (last flown in 1976). It got registered in the civil aviation registry (SE-DXB) and it was shown for the first time at F10 wing airshow Aug 5 1995.
It is a Youtube video with glimpses of the restauration (all talking in the video is in Swedish) and its flying at the airshow Aug 5 1995. The pilot flying had not flown a J29 in 29 years but had made some practice flights in the plane before the airshow.
J29 was, when it entered service in beginning 1950th, cutting edge and was in pair with F-86 Sabre and MIG-15.
It held several speed records in the 1950th. It is easy to think that this barrel shaped plane had not so great performance in the air, but the performance at that time was outstanding.
They used to say that it was a duck on the ground but a swallow in the air (said by the testpilot Bob Moore who maiden the first J29 in 1948).
Some info about J29 with English speaker. One thing is wong about what they say in this video, it was never a two seater trainer of J29 bulit.
Besides long service in the Swedish Airforce it also was in UN service in 1961-1963 as 22 U.N. Fighter Squadron (F 22 ) in the Congo crise, where it had exceptional serviceability of about 90% during its 2 years service in UN.
It was a movie made in the early 1950th here in Sweden where "yellow squadron" was in focus, flying the J29.
I believe the whole movie can be seen on Youtube but someone made a short video with glipses from this movie where only the flying with J29 is shown that is perhaps more interesting to watch below. In one of last scenes in the movie I think almost all J29 planes avaliable was flying in mass formations. The movie was of course a channel for the Airforce to recruit pilots since they needed plenty of them at that time.
When J29 was in service our rather small country had at this cold war period what was considered the 4th strongest airforce in the world with about 1000 airplanes with about 50 squadrons.
It is rather strange but true. 661 J29 was built by SAAB.
A recent video from 2016 with the J29 flying below, where the Swedish licensed-built de Havilland Ghost, the RM 2, engine can be heard whining at the end of the video.
Photo of the engine used in J29:
There is a brand new film made about J29 and a glimpse of it can be seen here (full film is 1.5 hour):
