... Maiden flight was successful , my cg is abit further upfront have about 7 clicks up elevator to fly level ** but is ok for the first maiden flight , later will get the battery pack moving back !
Aileron just 3 clicks left , ....

For Flaps mixing , i would say just little to no mix at all at first stage flaps and full flaps ... i use 3 flights mode for my Predator ; normal flight / 1st flap / Full flap .
As i goes tru my radio setting : Condition1 (normal flight) + 7 clicks #up elevator#
Condition2 (1st flap) + 8 clicks
Condition3 (Full flap) + 9 clicks

well , this is my first full composite 2,2m sport jet and i'm impress with the flight performance and build quality , would like to thank Tony for making the custom scheme for me

huisson2005,

Congratulations on your mainden. It looks like you can slow the predator pretty much and it also seems that you did not even have to put the brakes on if I am not mistaken. Could you please elaborate more on the handling at slow speed and landing?

Thanks in advance,
Regards

Well to my surprise it handle low speed that well .... offcause * not to slow* that would stall the plane !! ... just keep some air speed .

I just fly it about 40% throttle maybe less with full flaps .... on approched landing , when i bang the corner i just throttle down all the way , .... just keep the hose down abit to let it glide in the runway ...
.final touch down , just abit up elevator to keep the nose up to slow the plane down .... it can land that slow lol ...

yes , i didnt use the brakes after landed , it was slowing down already .... !

Thank you for the info!!! Reason for asking is that we have a rather short runway about 120 meters paved with unforgiving run offs all around. No room for mistakes!!

Predator great flying sport jet. The color is vibrant and visible. The landing gears are strong. I am still getting used to it; however, the CQ is a bit nose heavy per manual and making some adjusting this. I am happy so far. I wanted something smaller and easily to transport for days when the air field is busy.

Default Newbie to Jets

Dear all,

I have been reading through the thread and I am very pleased to hear everyones' experiences. However, I am wondering if this would be a decent first jet? I have been flying for couple years and transitioned quickly from trainer to 120cc 3D airplanes as this is mainly what I have been flying for the past two years. So I was thinking about building another 120cc this season, however I am kinda getting bored of strictly flying 3D airplanes. So been recently thinking into transition into jets and the looks and flying performance (price also) seems to be very reasonable. What does everyone think? Should I start with a predator?
I know some may argue that I am better off starting with a boomerang or something similar, but finance could be an issue as I won't be able to spend this much every couple weeks. My turn around time for building a 70cc-120cc airplanes is about a year and half to 2 years. Which means if I were to buy a boomerang I won't be able to afford a sport jet for couple at least the next two years. Hence, I am trying to jump into some forgiving sports jet. Hope to hear everyone's input it would be greatly appreciated.

i suggest you invest in a 6s foam edf to get you going in the right direction. you will need to train your eyes to the speed and small size at distance of a jet. the wings are small so the orientation is tough.
the freewing avanti will hit 100mph level and give you great take offs and landings. good investment for a way to get your feet wet. i know many pilots of turbines still take along an edf to get a flight in before they fly the turbine. just gets you used to the approaches being long and shallow. no harrier landings with most jets. and a nose up on final can spell disaster with a wing stall so be ready for an entire different flying style. not much of your 3d will kick in with a turbine but stick time is good to have under your belt.

this jet will be fine is you fly it like a jet and respect the above mentioned style when landing or going at under half throttle.. it will last you a long time and expand your skills past most other pilots in a short time.

Thatís truly a great suggestion as I have been thinking about it also right before I asked you guys. Would a foamy be the way to go to get the best learning experience or would a balsa/composite frame be better to get my feet wet? I have been looking at the sebart mini avanti it takes a 90 mm and flys on 6s?thanks again

sebart avanti is awesome at a much higher cost overall your choice where to spend your money but they both fly very well.

going foam leaves more money for the turbine purchases later.

No I completely agree. As I mentioned earlier it take me little bit of time to save up for big investments. So a foamy would leave me room to build a turbine in couple months. How much flying time would be enough to transition to a turbine ? Or maybe let me ask this way, how could I tell when I am ready?

i would suggest a few dozen great flights on the avanti and take it with you and keep flying it as a warm up at the site each time you fly the turbine thereafter. your on a good plan go with it.

Thatís great I was thinking more like a 100 flights or so. Would the free wing stinger be the same? I know a club member has one for sale. I could probably grab it and start flying it and get prepared for a predator by the end of the season.
