Default be careful of suspicious offers from RCU marketplace

I have had someone emailing me offers on all items i have posted (one not related to another ) , insisting to deal off of RCU marketplace and insisting on getting my full name, address, phone #. The person also offered an additional $50 per each item because he was going to "be away" and payment would be sent out later, and wanted to schedule a pickup . Not sure what the scam is as this is no more than a few hundred $ of stuff, but i don't feel easy giving my address and info away that easily.

There have been several cases reported in the USA where forums like this one have been used to target people for robbery, fraud, etc ... I'm not taking my chances. Wherever possible, work with only verified RCU buyers that have feedback. Use paypal, and try and avoid having people visit your house unless it is for bigger items and you have verified the potential buyers.

Just a heads up to you guys.

Yeah.. that and the, "I have the item you are looking for in stock.." nonsense who doesn't want me to do anything through RCU, but private email and "friends and family" PayPal payments.. Yeah.. No..

I got the same. Not on a jet, but same scam:

Great!. I'm going on a business trip but I will instruct my assistant to prepare and mail your payment which I'm sure you will get in about 2-3 days business days. I'll add $50 extra for the delay. I'll pay by M O or cashier check so send me your info (i.e full name, mailing address and your phone number) so payment can be mailed out immediately. I will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be after you must have received and cashed the payment.Awaiting your info.

Whenever I am going to meet someone I don't know for a transaction whether I am buying or selling, I only do it at the local police station. If some one wants my address I give the address of my local PD. The PD does have cameras that will record whatever transpires in their parking lot. To date I have only had one person that refused to meet me at the PD, He insisted the meet be done in a deserted parking lot of a closed factory. NOT! I have had people that were a bit apprehensive about it until I explained that this way I know you are not going to rip me off and it also means that you can be confident that I am not going to rob you, at hat point they usually no longer have an issue with the meeting place.
I would recommend that you first call your local PD to be sure it is ok with them before you just start showing up in their parking lot.

I only accept cash if meeting in person, modern printers can make a real good looking bad cashiers check or money order. and by the time you find out it is bad, your stuff is long gone. If they say they have a courier coming to pick it up, I tell them fine, just make sure the courier has cash with him.

Counterfeiters can make some realistic looking currency as well, it's good practice to "know your money" so you are familiar with the security features of genuine currency. I've worked many a case where someone gave a bad guy their valuable merchandise for nothing more than a worthless stack of paper.

I just got the same EXACT email from someone about a TF P-47 I have listed for sale here. The email was found in my Spam folder, and was sent the very same day I posted the ad. It came from [email protected], who has emailed others here as well from what I see.
