Default Flying Jets at Dry Lakes?

I know there are some people that fly at dry lakes. I do from time to time myself as they are readily available in Nevada.
Many of Nevada's dry lakes aren't as dirty as one might think, and are almost always extremely smooth.
I've had some people ask me if having an event at one, be it in Northern or Southern Nevada would bring anyone in to fly.

Would anyone ever be interested if there was a jet event at one?

In the late 80's and early 90's Best in the West was held at Rosamond dry lake by Edwards AFB in the October time frame. In 1995 it was held at Rabbit Dry lake in June. The heat on the lakebed was a killer for a full day event in the summer. In southern California, at least, the best months for the lakebed are usually Oct/Nov. Tradeoff between beating the heat & winds and being ahead of the rain which will flood the lakebed. The event was lost in either '92 or '93 due to the lakebed being flooded from rain. Rabbit, right now, is flooded/muddy from rain earlier this week. I fly at Rabbit year round, and, no, the dust and dirt are not a problem for the engines.

Another consideration might be where good hotels and food are. Closest decent hotel to Rabbit is 20+ miles away.

You could probably fly your jet out there without a waiver and nobody would care. Right?

Someone would be a damn fool to have an even that was not sponsored by the AMA. Too many lawyers around looking for easy money,

This was just the local guys from today at Stagecoach Nevada. 4 of these guys have been signed off since November and One has been a waiver holder for some time now.

Any actual event or planned get together would be AMA required. Just coming out to fly is a different story, but why not just get signed off while you are there, and have the insurance.

That will INSTANTLY deem the day as a get together, not a SANCTIONED AMA EVENT,, meaning you will personally be financially responsible should anything happen. That's the Risk. Personally I think I would enjoy flying at a dry lake bed, and hope to make a trip to one for a weekend sometime.

Got some messages that those are not good dates. We'll have to come up with some other ones shortly. Maybe 1st week of May?? Looking at the 4th to the 6th so far.
Bring your AMA card since it is on private property. We'll have at least one CD to sign you off if you want to go for your waiver.
Bring what you have. EDF, Turbine, nitro. Scale, sport, etc. Great place to do maiden flights and work out bugs for sure. Won't be any fees or prizes, just come on out and fly. Plenty of room for dry camping and there are two convenience stores, one with gas and diesel, not too far away.
Here's a quick Google Earth map of the area. It's off Highway 50 Between Carson City and Silver Springs Nevada.

Then the actual Event...High Sierra Jets! will be a the Reno club field September 21-23 2018. So far there are about 6 companies donating prizes. Kingtech, Spark Hobby, Progressive RC, Smartfly, AirBeast Products, and RTL Fasteners with more to come. More info will be available next month, and registration should start in March.

No different than all the other non-AMA people who fly airplanes/jets wherever.

It's about 4100' elevation so not too far off from Kingman. It's good to fly until about 80-85 degrees then the density altitude gets a little wonky, but doable.

I used to fly at Rabbit Dry Lake. Kept my hotspot in the area so I could fly during my bussiness trips.

Hi Gary,
I remember those days, you always had a hotspot handy, like having a pocket knife.

You should come down for one of the western events, Coachella in Palm springs is nice, Tucson?
