Default BVM F-16 1/6 flying without gyro

Anyone flying their BVM F-16 without a gyro? I have a Cortex Pro but dont quite trust it. I am thinking about flying naked or just using a Igyro 1e on the rudder. Comments?

Tom,

I have flown my many times with the gyro off. Unless it's windy/bumpy I really do not notice too much so you will be fine IMO. I flew the demo smackdown flight last year at Kentucky with it off because I forgot to turn it on before takeoff. Oops LOL!

Flown it no less then 200 times on a cortex. At Kentucky the igyro guy said I needed to try a igyro in it so he traded me.....

flies much better on the cortex but the igyro works good also. Just like cortex better.

Plane flies ok with out it but I wouldn't ever take one out because flies so much better with it.

What surface is the gyro needed for? I'm getting ready to maiden mine and just curious. I had an original Bobcat that everyone claimed needed a gyro on rudders but I never used one.

I know you had an issue in the past but there are literally thousands of Cortex Pro’s in service and I can count on one hand the guys who have contacted me because something was not quite right. If you do not 100% trust the particular unit you have I’d be happy to exchange it for a new one. Send an email to: [email protected] and a replacement will be on it’s way the next day.

Tom

I have maidened 6 of these without gyros. They are a great and easy plane to fly. The Gyro will no doubt knock the edges off in the wind but not necessary for safe flight. Have fun

true... but it flies sooooo much nicer with it. Ali told me once: not all planes need gyros, but they all benefit from one

F16 is one of those

I have no gyro operating in the first 10-15 flights of any airplane I fly. You need to make sure that everything is trimmed and balanced to perfection without a gyro. This includes trim and balance for aerobatic maneuvers.

It takes another 8-10 flights to tune the gyro to my liking. The automatic, "single flight" setup is only a starting place on the iGyro for me.

Four out of my five turbine jets have gyros and they help mainly with windy conditions. But there is a marked increase in stability on slow landings on two of my planes, my 89" P51 Mustang (prop) and my twin turbine 100" Pilot G650 Gulfstream. Wind or not the gyro helps on the slower landings - is almost a must for shorter runways on these two planes.

My BVM 1:6 F16 does not "need" a gyro but people have noticed it is more stable looking in flight than other people's warbirds without gyros.

Agree with Ali and Jack,

All planes benefit from Gyros. I am putting them on all my new builds. One thing with getting older, eyes not as good reflexes not as good but bigger planes help and technology is always appreciated

Another question. Using Jeti with 2xREX3 & CB200. The servos really seem jerky. I have changed output rate from auto to 12,17,22 and all seem about the same. Gyro not installed yet. Ideas?
