Default Pilot-rc Predator 1.8m

Goodday fellow pilots,

I am new on this forum, flying rc planes for years now. 34 years old from the Netherlands.
I just bought a pilot-rc predator 1.8m and will receive it in april. Does someone has experience with this aircraft? I will put the kingtech k70 in the predator. Will fly it from a grass field, so hoping it has enough power. And if the retracts are strong. I’ve read good reviews from people with the predator 2.2m but almost none about the 1.8m. So curious about your opinion.

regards,
Christiaan

Christian

What length is the grass stip? The 70 will fly the model, but the initial acceleration will be quite slow.

Goodday Dave,

the strip is just a bit more than 300ft long.
Hope it is enough. Got a hsd viper now with the k70. Is it about equal with the predator for take off distance?

I maidened one for a buddy a few weeks back, plane flew and landed well. the gear is electric and seemed very strong, no problems. we were flying at my home field which is an 800ft. paved runway. His has a jetcat 160 in it, and has a ton of power. The 70 will fly it, buy I would expect LOOONG takeoff rollouts, especially on a grass field, I also expect the plane to have a very poor climb rate and performance. That engine is definately on the small side for the Plane.

Does the 1.8m predator has enough space for a bigger engine? Because pilot-rc recommands an 45-85N range engine.

And there is a video of this plane being flown on an 80N engine, on a paved runway (click on video tab)

Ronnie may be talking about the larger version

300' is 100m. You will need a breeze each time you fly!

Hope it will work with the k70, strip is also a bit short. A breeze will help indeed.

you will definitely enjoy it more with a K85 (which has the same dimensions and weight of the K60 but significantly more power.

Just a thought

I have not seen any further reviews of the 1.8m. Will try with the K70 first, probably will end up with a bigger engine if this doesn’t work.
Thank you for all the info!

How much is the 1.8 size? I don’t see a price on Chief’s website or on the Pilot RC site.

Around 1800$, there is also a turbine ready version. I paid for the turbine ready version 2400€. I think it is almost the same as 2400$.

The flight with the 8 kg turbine seems to go really fast.
Then it would be possible with the k70.
That would be nice.

I think it would be enough with the k70, I will build the k85 in it because we have a short grass strip. Don’t have to fly full throttle all the time :-)

Would a 100N size turbine be ok? It seems this may be a bit large for this jet and a bit small for the larger predator

I dont know, I will receive the predator at the end of april. So I can check, maybe send an email to Tony from pilot rc to ask? The predator is build for the 4-85N turbines.

Have the pirotti hot ordered at Berto.
But am curious if they do deliver quickly after all the misery.
Find this actually much nicer and even cheaper.

I was considering the rebel hot as well, but I like the predator scheme’s and have good experience with pilot rc planes so far.

i have flown my 2m viper jet from pilot rc with jet cat p70 last week , it took quite long runway to roll out & most of the time I'm on full throttle, if you need my advise go for k-140 or 120.

I'd like to put my Rabbit in one (VT90). I think it may be too large as well, but too small for the larger version.
