Default My latest addition, The Hawker Hunter!

Hello Folks, Here are some photo's of my newest addition!
This large Hunter is scheduled for ground , and flight work-ups this week. My friend, Mr Gary Jones, will be assisting me with the LTMA-1 certification. With all this complete and behind us, we plan on the public debut at the Tiger meet, SC in April, then First In Flight afterwords!
This particular Hunter served in Jordan 1963-1967! The aircraft was given joint squadron dress due to the merging of the No 8, and No 43 units. Thus the reason for the two distinctive tail markings as carry-overs post merging!
Was flown by a young RAF Flt Lt Nigel Harrignton at the Kormaskor RAF Station field Aden, near the Persian Gulf.
Sadly this beautiful classic aircraft was lost during a night training sortie in 1967!

Hi Frank,
Great pics of your fleet especially the Hunter. My visit south to Red Flag and FL Jets has been scrubbed. We're still shoveling out from the latest storms. Take care and say "hi" to Karen for us.
Regards,

I wish I had the money for that kind of fleet. I could feed my family for some time with it.

Hello Mr Art!

We saw the nearly "four" back to back storms that you've guys have had!
We are really enjoying our new digs, the community, and not least the nearly all year round model flying and golfing together.
Don't shovel too much as that stuff is real work, you could make yourself too tired to progress on your shop projects.
Please say hello to Barbara for us.
Take care Art,
Franko

Hello Jamie,

Yes sir, we are excited to get on with the LTMA1 requirements!
Karen and I are looking forward to visiting the "Tiger" field again this year. As the flying site is grass, we won't bring the J-35 Draken as it is only a hard surface ship due to the very low tail-wheel doors on the jet.
However, we will have both the BAE-120 Demonstrator, and the new Hawker Hunter to have fun with you guys.
See you soon,
Franko

Hello "6Blitz"

The large Hunter is 120" long and 88" wide! The aircraft can be had from the Fae-Bao group. You can also see the jet details located within the
"Global-Jet" website. Just search 1/4 scale Hunter and you shall find plenty regarding this aircraft.
Cheers....

Hey Baby!

Thank you for the kind words.
One day we will have that proverbial overnight in the same city, and we'll indulge in the "1-2-3 deal at the bar we've all come to enjoy.
Flay safe,
Franko

Hi Andy,

Thank you Bro...
Now that we're settled in down here, we will try to make the southern circuit soon, ie, Mississippi jets, the Master's Qualifier in Baton Rouge in October etc, etc!
Perhaps ill see you at the "First in Flight"?

Hello Mr RG Burrill,

Hey man, anybody can do this! Just do a little moonlight work on the dance pole with some pasties, get a good beat going and the bucks just keep on coming!
Lots of dough for model jets and stuff, even turbines that go with them.
My wife thinks I'm some kind of real airplane pilot guy, but I've had her fooled for almost 20 years now! He he he.
All kidding aside man, you get your tail down Charleston some day, and who knows, maybe you'll get to buddy box a flight or two on one of those jets with me!
Be safe, stay warm up north.

Frank,
Nice looking fleet you have! I know you mention Gary Jones and I am curious if he is the same individual that lived in Colorado some years back. If so, tell him the Loveair RC group says HI!

Thanks,
Harry

That looks awesome. Got mine a few weeks ago, still working on the install. Using a KT 310 for power. Which turbine do you have installed?

Loving the fleet! Iím lucky I get to see these bad boys up close in the shop and in the air. The attention to detail Frank puts into his scale jet builds is out of this world! Heís truly a master builder.

Btw, thatís a nice CG rig you got there...

Hello David,

Man, haven't exchanged words with you since 2007! Remember when we both picked up our J35 Drakens from the first offerings at Airworld?
Was crazy trying to put that early version together from German plans! And somehow, you ended up with parts for my jet??? I still have the Draken running strong after all these years. Whatever happen to your ship?
The Hunter , even in its finest day, with the finest engine ever fitted was only a .48 to 1 thrust to weight ratio aircraft. Not even 50 to 1! Very classic fighter for its time, and always fun to watch the full-scale do its thing at airshows! I have installed a 38 pound thrust turbine and will have similar performance to the full scale air frame. The heavy Draken has served with the same turbine set-up and has been very lively in all its performances. Your KT310 will certainly bring it up to current day equations of better than one-to-one thrust to weight! You'll be able to take off from a 20 foot ground run man! Awesome! Send me video of that.
In your kit you'll find several accessories for ether the Swiss, or the British versions. So have fun, looking forward to your build progress.
Nice to hear from you again after all this time,
Take care David

My Drakken, unfortunately did not have the long lifespan of yours! I got a little over aggressive on a tight low level turn, hi speed stall, snap rolled into the ground at full speed. It was exciting I hope to keep the Hunter much longer. I decided on the 310 because of the projected 75-80lb takeoff weight. A little extra push for go arounds etc. I doubt full throttle will otherwise ever be needed.

I’m planning a trip back to JOK this year. Hope to see and get to fly with you then!

Hey guys, and dolls!
Amazing how these projects come to us huh? Everyone of you engaging in this hobby ought to pat yourself on the back! The fact that we take a pile of stuff and do this is pretty cool!
The Hunter has now been flown successfully! We have a really wonderful large Hunter to prowl the sky with you guys.
My friend, and fellow jet man, Mr Gary Jones assisted with the required structural, and flight control load inspections, his patience, and knowledge with the AMA LTMA1 requirements helped to make this an easier than expected process.
We'll be seeing you guys starting with the "Tiger-Meet" , followed by the "First in Flight" events.
Franko
