Paint catastrophe.
As this paint job necessitates many small painting masks, invariably some need to be moved as one is lining things up. Well, as I had to pull some masks up to move around, I noted some paint was still lifting in some places, even after my detergent scrub. Ugh.
On my practice pieces, that paint gripped harder than Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch.
Well, I wet sanded the whole thing with 220, followed by 400. If this ppg paint doesn’t stick after that, well... back to rustoleum?!! LOL

That is odd Ravill. Is the paint going on wet enough? maybe spray it in a cooler temp so it can lay and adhere before drying. I have had this happen because the paint was getting dry almost before hitting the surface. Just a thought!

It's a colossal PIA sanding all that gelcoat, particularly around the many rivets and panel lines, without sanding them away. I cleaned my A-10 with some sort of PPG prep solvent (can't remember the name) just before applying a PPG base coat. The decals, weathering and paint mask went next and then a coat of very dry clear (PPG Flex-n-Flat). Never had any problem with it not sticking.

Here are my steps:
1: I used 3M scothbrite pad and applied that to the whole airplane. The scotch pad was recommended to scoff up the gel coat before applying paint.
2: I applied PPG JBX #1 as the first coat.
As I was unmasking this first coat, I noted paint flaking.
Then I remembered that I did not wash the gel coat with soap and water before using the 3M pad.
So then:
1: I washed the entire jet with detergent soap and water
2: I let it dry for a couple of days
3: I rescoffed the entire jet with the 3M pad
4: I sprayed the first ppg coat.
5: After a few days, I started the first camo masking. This is when I saw the paint was STILL pulling up.
6: Then I wet sanded the whole first coat again with 220 sandpaper and the followed with a wet 400.
7: Let the jet dry for 3 days.
8: I reapplied the first base coat and started the first camo masking application.
Now, it seems that the masking tape is NOT pulling up the paint.
Behzad, maybe you are on to something, but the temps I’ve been spraying have been upper 60’s to low 70’s. This not even close to being warm.
Next airframe will be: wash, wet sand (220 and 400) and then spray.

When I was asking for the sanding, sorry that was a bad translation, I meant to scoff the gelcoat.
I'm not a painter myself at all but when I took my plane back from the mate who did the paint job for my A10, I was asking a lot of questions in order to be able to do it alone for the next planes.
He definitely recommanded to scoff the whole plane with the 3M pad like you did but then he didn't used any base coat and sprayed the first color as a base coat but he is using a good automotive paint.
I can try to get the brand if needed.
He told me also to be really carefull with the tape to use for masking, he is only using PVC tape from "TESA".
Hope that helps ..

And of course, I read that warning AFTER I bought it.
Craig, your stuff seems ideal. Here is what the description says about your stuff:
PPG is pleased to announce the launch of ONECHOICEŽ SX103 MULTI-PREP™ cleaner.
OneChoice SX103 Multi-Prep cleaner is a multi-purpose product developed for use as an Anti-Static agent and as a plastic parts and mold release cleaner.
SX103 Multi-Prep cleaner is a universal cleaner for use with all PPG and NEXA AUTOCOLORŽsystems.
SX103 Multi-Prep cleaner will eventually replace DELTRONŽ brand DX103 Multi-Prep and GLOBAL REFINISH SYSTEM™ brand D846 Degreasing Agent for Plastic.

I’ve got the fuse and one wing done with the first digital camo masking.
For the most part now, the paint seems to stick. There is still some spots that are peeling, but they are very little and they kinda add to the weathering.
I really like this digital camo, so I think it will be worth all this work.
Decals and masks have been ordered from tailormade graphics and they are on their way.
