Default Mirce NEXT

Well if the Fouga wasn't enough balsa one should try one of these. Mirce NEXT. Wings and tail mostly complete. Fuse framed up. Now to sheet this monster.

Looks great .. nice work!

I have been flying one this season .. Mirce himself built it .. it flies great on a P-130 .. plenty of power.

I went to Super Jets South at Georgia Jets Field. There was a gentleman that had built one and painted it in a Navy Coast Guard Scheme. It was very visible. I apologize, but forgot his name. He gave me a show and tell of the jet. The canopy is a marvel of design. I love the intakes and how they blend into the fuselage. It was aerobatic, fast, and yet could slow down nicely for landing. Well worth the effort of the build.

Looking great Tom,

I do a lot of building with fiberglass. I make fiberglass sheets of different thickness and stiffness on a glass table. I have used it to sheet stabs. Instead of using balsa for sheeting and then fiberglass cloth over the balsa. What would be your thoughts about using thin fiberglass strips like you would balsa. Wider strips on more flat surfaces. Then once sheeted, apply a layer or two of 1.4 oz fiberglass cloth to connect and smooth the joints? Then 3/4 oz for the final finish layer. I have also used the fiberglass sheets on the interior to create framing for fuselage repairs. It would reduce the work on larger flat to small contour surfaces. On the canopy, I still think that it would have to use 2”-3” wide strips of proper length.

Too far down the road to change horses now. Sound like a good technique though.

Well after a long time out for other projects I'm back on the NEXT. Got stab mounted and plugging away on the planking.
