Default Michigan Jet Rally Dates

Well, its January and 20 below zero up at the Baldwin RC Park. So we are not flyin' today. But, … the dates for our June Jet Rally and August Boondoggle are set. I know that most of us are already starting to compile our 2019 schedules, so I'll pass the info on to you.

Michigan Jet Rally = June 6-8
Michigan Jet Pilot's Boondoggle = August 8-10

During 2019, we will also be hosting:

Michigan Pylon Racing Competition = June 22-23
West Michigan RC Expo = July 11-13 This is open to jets also.
West Michigan Soar IN = September 14-15

I attached related fliers. You are all invited to our events. We have a 3800' asphalt runway with asphalt taxiways and pit row. The sun is to your back all day.

I look forward to seeing our usual family of jet pilots! If you can please bring a new pilot to introduce him or her to our laid back events.

Well, .. I know we did one BVM F-22 maiden last year, at least. Trouble on its third flight though, they were having so much fun with it that they ran it out of fuel, … way out there. It had a bit of a rough landing as they crossed the runway versus trying to land on it correctly. But it came back to the Pitts relatively undamaged cause it is all grass out there. I think we lost a couple gear doors, etc. But, we have a couple other F-22s that made several flights and all of them made back to the trailer in one piece though. We do not have to worry about the heat in June. Also, we do have a great setup to get planes in and out w/o much waiting. Lots of open airspace. But, I love it when I am out there on the flight line with 4-5 other pilots. Best of all, we are in Class E airspace. Don't have to deal with the FCC to go over 400'.

We do NOT have electric service out there,... yet. Most folks bring their own generators. Although we have occasionally provided power for folks who need it on the flight line as we have several generators for the flightline and pit area.

We do allow free primitive camping for pilots and event workers. If you want to have full service camping, Whispering Oaks Campground is just 1/2 mile south of the RC Park. I attached a list of our 2018 sponsors. The local motels and campgrounds are listed on that. If you are interested in a motel room, you had better get you reservation soon. We typically fully book our sponsors' motels. There are others available, but our sponsors have the best facilities.

Just to give you a scale to gage the size of this picture, that runway is 75' wide. The paved pit row below is 200' long.

Well, … The sanction is approved. Also, during annual member focus groups, its was identified that we need to add another 100' to the paved Pit Row. But, we'll probably do that after the events to avoid a construction mess. But, overall it looks like we are making about $10K worth of RC Park improvements again this year. The Car Track is getting a major overhaul. We also brought Pylon Racing back this year. Going to be another busy season for LCMFA! We have already firmed up several of our pilots' raffle sponsors. We should again have some really great pilot prizes. If you have not checked us out, you do not know what you are missing! www.LCMFA.com It is a really laid back venue and the pilots are all family. Come give us a try! Once you do, you will be back for the Jet Pilot's Boondoggle in August and both events will be on your future years' annual calendar! The Boondoggle's pilots dinner is a real killer feast. Both events will have onsite plane storage.

I know I'll be there. Just got back from Top Gun, Pensacola Naval Air Station and a couple days at Joe Nall. Got lots of new stories to tell this year. Best of all, I flew an F-35 down the Las Vegas strip at 430 knots at 200' AGL. If you want to hear about that, you have to show your face at the Michigan Jet Rally. The vendors are already sending in stuff for the pilots raffles at our two 2019 Jet Rallies. As I understand it, we have some of our sponsoring motels already booked. If you are running into reservation problems, please feel free to give me a call. I have a list of other places to stay. (907) 903-3569. C U out there.

Weather forecast is good for all three days. Got all the pilot prise package in from our 7 national sponsors. Storage Tent goes up tonight. I may even have a few new music titles this year. Things are lookin' good for a great Michigan Jet Rally.

Rally details, motels and other accommodations are listed on the attached PDF.
