Default Days ahead.

With the evolving climate change affecting more and more of our daily life and the eventual demise of our civilization looming ahead I´m a little worried about the future of our jet model hobby. Just because the rest of the world might fall back to a medieval way of life I certainly don´t want to stop flying model jets. Does anyone know if it would be possible to convert our jet engines to run on alcohol instead of kerosene in the future?

Oh dear!

The chance of this planet going back to mediaeval times in our lifetime would have to be 0.00000000001% at best.

If in the remotest chance that we did get back to mediaeval times in our lifetime, I think worrying about what fuel our turbine jet uses might just be on the low priority list!

I think what will be a higher priority is if can we use the jet to whack the local wildlife over the head to provide us with some dinner and use the kerosene or alcohol to stay warm and cook food.

Speaking of alcohol……..

It is not possible to run these engines on alcohol nor is it needed...…Don't let the crazy liberals that profit from global warming scare you into being crazy.

I sense much turmoil in the future....of this thread.

Would have been much less argument-inducing had you simply asked "Can our turbines run on alcohol?" without the sky is falling slant.

I've heard of people accidentally putting AvGas in their turbines with catastrophic results.

Well I am in the planning stages of setting up a small lathe on my boat. One of the projects will be a small steam engine which I will use in a boat. For no particular reason other than I anchor my boat off the local rum factory I thought I would try to use the local strong rum which is 86% alcohol as a boiler fuel. Yup the kettle boiled.

It is a little less effective than kero but works just fine once I had opened up the burner a little.

So it might just might be possible to convert one of our size turbines to run on alcohol.

Not to worry... I think our Hobby could continue as is for several million years and cause less effect on "Climate Change" than about 5 minutes of emissions that Mother Nature pooped out in the latest Volcano action in Hawaii a couple of years ago...... I envy you, that you have nothing else in life to think about...

Live long and prosper...

Over there is Sweden is liberal central. He is just a progressive looking into the future!

Progressives want to try new (and not always novel) stuff!

The climate maybe getting hotter, but cooler heads will prevail.

Lets nip the politics/global warming stuff in the bud now before it starts to careen way off topic and away from any semblance of RC jets.

Thanks

We have 12 years to convert all of our jets to electric or the world will end so I've been told

In 11 years there's going to be one heck of a sale on turbines

Hopefully, in 2031, President Cortez will initiate a "Cash for Clunker Turbines" program and we can get some cash back to use towards a new alternatively powered turbine engine.

I'm very excited about the upcoming fire sale for turbine jets in 2031. I will start saving my pennies (rocks) now.

Does anybody know what currency we will be using then as apparently it will be mediaeval times?

Will it be some kind of rock?

I need to buy some of these rocks before the go up in price.

Remember when the dumbest things you read on RCU was Tracey Jensen, Merkins, Publar composite layups and Hugh Hefner investing in the glasscat? I miss those days......

According to a prepper I know, toilet paper will one day be a highly desired and thus trade-able commodity. Stock up!

In case of a major disagreement of two nuclear armed countries, we are going to be much worse than in medieval times, as predicted by Einstein.

However, I am very optimistic.I think that common sense will prevail and our sons and grandsons will fly better and better models in the future.

I burn my kerosene in my jets without any remorse, however as CO2 emissions are a real issue for the world, I try to minimize my footprint using alcohool in my car as much as I can, :-)

Not a model turbine, but one of Chrysler's turbine powered cars:

"Mexican president Adolfo López Mateosran one of the cars on tequila after Chrysler engineers confirmed that it would do so."
