CARF Rebel MAX - Build Thread

Yea, could not believe there was one not spoken for, ready to go in the container. Called Ray and figured I'd hear "9-12 months". Actually really wanted a Classic Lightning (because I had one, flew the snot out of it for 3 years early in my jet flying days) but really did enjoy several hundred flights on my Rebel Pro. So, here we are!
This will be my only bug. Been there, done that on the long double axle trailer full of jets. Just ready to quietly fly with some close buddies.

Yes sir, I agree. Not sure what happened but it is what it is. We've been able to match the orange now and the plane is almost done. Once I get it back, I just have to redo the rear wiring harness and put in the new turbine that KingTech sent to replace the one that let go.
I'm blown away at how excited I am to get this particular plane back up in the air. I've flown everything there is to fly over the past 33 years and I've never been so excited about a plane. More pictures and videos to come when I get it back together.

Dave,
So this would be "dark orange -22" from their web site I'm assuming. Do you know the proper colors for the silver and black on the Infinity Orange scheme? I see a coarse and fine silver and I suspect the black is either "Antharzit 25" or "Light Anthrazit 33". CARF list the colors on some planes but not on the Rebels that I can see.
Thanks,

Well boys, the Max is out of the paint booth and all structural repairs have been completed. We had to add an orange stripe on the canopy because the tape line between the old silver and new silver was causing issues. I’ll pick it up at Bomber Field Sunday. Larry still needs to shoot the clear and add a few finishing touches. Once I pick it up, I’ll get some more pictures so we can all see the final result.
From what I can tell, the workmanship is amazing. When I get it home, I only lack putting in the new turbine and rewire the rear fuse AMP connector. She’ll be in the air soon! I can’t wait.

rbxbear44 Exciting times lie ahead for you. You're going to LOVE this plane. By the way, I apparently have your orange color if you need it since the wrong stuff came from CARF.
I installed the new turbine Monday night with all the new plumbing and remade the rear tail section AMP connector last night. Just waiting for the Hysol to dry. KingTech accidentally sent me a short power cable to the DRM but Dirk is sending me the longer one in the mail. I'm hoping she's back in the air Memorial Day weekend. I'll try to get some video of the next flight (in focus this time) and show y'all around the repairs.

Yep, 3 boxes. My suburban did not fit them all, so had to unpack the wing box and put the wings and stabs between the two larger fuse boxes. All good though. I have had to wait since Feb 8, so not too bad at all for these days!
doing the pipe and former first. This bird will stay in one piece, except for nose.

Attacked my least favorite thing, pipe and turbine mount and alignment. Like doing this at the beginning so I don't get into "Hysol Jail" later on. Not too bad, a few tweaks on the former fit and DONE! The laser is always a help with this exercise. Will probably just stay on the tail feathers while I am back there.

Very nice! Like the scheme! I finished up the tail feathers today, fitted the CM Jets tank, will Hysol the braces for that in the morning. I have travel coming up this week, will make a Dreamworks order while I'm gone for some odds and ends. Everything fits so well...like BVM and Tomahawk stuff.

Hi guys,
Just a heads up, if you will. If you use the silver clevises that come with the airplane that have a pin and a keeper, be careful. I pulled my wing out of its Revoc bag and the one on my aileron servo must have snagged the bag and came off as well as the pin. I looked in the wing bag and both pin and keeper were in there so it definitely happened in the bag. When I put it back on, it was very easy to put on and take off. I took a pair of needle nose pliers and made it tighter again and put it back on. The more I thought about it, the more it bothered me. If it's that easy to bend those little keepers, that makes me very nervous.
I decided to swap out all 5 control surface pins (2 x ailerons, 2 x elevator, 1 x rudder) which all had those on them with a 3mm bolt, washers, and lock nut. The exchange is perfect and I'd say what little slop was there because of the pin is completely gone now. I'm not saying I didn't make a mistake but I just can't trust that little tiny keeper on a jet. Please look over your connections and make sure you're comfortable with what you have.
CARF's pins obviously work but if it can fall off in a wing bag, I'm out.

Good advise Scott. One question--that aluminum seems ultra soft and are you concerned that the bolt threads will munch away at it and wallow out the hole in the clevis? I was even going to place a drop of light oil on the normal pin to try to preserve it.
