Voodoo builder lookout!
Hey guys,
I have been looking for a Voodoo kit for a few years. If anyone has contact info, I could likely kit airplane with CAD drawings and arrange for laser cutting of any balsa/ply parts. Fiberglass moulds are not my strong point, so I am interested in finding out what kind of construction we are looking at...
Any/all info is welcome!

Guy's, All I know is ( Which is not alot, I would like to get something going on a kit of this plane. I have talked with Tom Cook and others. I can get my friend to do some cad drawings of this plane. I am looking for something in the size of yellows twin F-18. I am willing to put some funds in this direction. Any help from others would be great.

Mike, Dave, David & rpz,
I know of an F-101 which was in the works by Lynn McCauly of Ft. Worth.
I haven't seen Lynn for a year or more. last I heard he had put the Voodoo aside and was working on a B1...
If memory serves, the Voodoo was to be something in the 100" length range. I don't know what wingspan that would yield, but I would guess 55"-65". I recall the Voodoo had pretty short wings.
Maybe I can get in touch with Lynn and try to get it going again.

Oh well. It was worth a shot. I didn't recall every seeing one advertised anywhere. Thanks everyone, and maybe someone will kit the Voodoo someday.

Ok Guys, O show of hands now. Who would like to see a kit of the one-0-wonder produced? What dimentions are prefered? And Finally how much would you expect to pay for a decent kit?
I know a fella who has a nearly completed plug and chose not to complete it as he felt there was no interest in it. Enough responses here might jar him to return to that project.

Well, hey - if the fuse is 6' or less, and if it could run off of a single DF or even a turbine, then I'd be in on it - Assuming one of the kit was in the air flying, I'd pay upwards of $400-$500 - assuming a limited manual production. For a manufacturer, probably about $300-$400?

I have checked on Lynn's F-101 project. It is thought that his plug and whatever else he had for it is now in the attic of a friend. There is the possibility that they could be gotten from him.
A104FREAK,
Do what you can to get your contact motivated again, and I'll look into getting the other one. If you can get some dimensions, post them for us.

Iam quite sure there is a lot more interest in this plane than you realize. A flying friend and I have been daydreaming about this plane for quite some time. Whoever kits it first will probably have the only kit available world wide. As far as how much to pay, I certainly would not want to pay BVM-like prices and I don't think anyone else would be interested in that type of pricing either. My preference would be for a size that would work well with the 18 to 28 pound thrust turbines (single engine, bifurcated pipe). If that could be produced for under $2,000 I feel there are many potential buyers. You have heard from some of them already.

I tried to talk Tom Cook into an F-101 Voo Doo years ago. I thought it had a streight forward gear set. At that time he thought the inlets were to small. He was interested at that time in only one thing. Star Fire. Things have changed over the years. and I still think it is one of the Sexiest jets out there.

More jet fuel for the fire...
In past conversations with the guys at Robart, if there were enough interest, I am sure that they would be interested in coming up with a scale set of gear for the model as well...
We may have a thing going here... Jim and Johnny - any word on the guys who might have a head start wanting to get back into the game with their prototypes?

Hi,
Guys...I have bumped into a site were they were showing a Voodoo kit plane that was intended to be sold commercially.
Unfortunately, that site was not available until a few days ago.
What I can state is that as an alternative one could get a set of drawings, CAD it, plot it and start working on it.
Surely, not the easiest of subjects but not insurmountable.
Drawings can be found if one looked for the DETAIL & SCALE
book and I believe that had crossections too.
Also,if one looked at previous RCJI magazines one will find that Robert Pischel (german) made a kit and succesfully flew it in one of the german events.
By the way, its a very nice subject!
Anyway...just my 2cents worth

Back in hte late 80's or very early 90's I remember seeing a pic of a model F-101 flying in one of BVM's Inlet publications. It was done by a customer of his and was powered with a Viojet powerplant. Don't know who did it as I don't have my old inlets here with me. I will check them out tomorrow when I hit my mothers and can fill in the blocks then.
The point being is it has been done and thus it would probably work very well with a nice turbine in it in the 17 - 18 pound thrust range.

I can see how the intakes might be small for a ducted fan if we're talking about a single ducted fan.
I believe Lynn McCauly's idea was to build one to fly with a single 18 LB turbine. this was before RAM 750's were upped to 22 lb.
A 100" fuselage length version of F-101 would be a great candidate for a 28- 30 pound or two 12 pound turbines.

I have everything needed to start one from scratch except 2 things, 1 is a good quality scale three view with cross sections, the detail and scale book does not have it, at least not my edition. has good three views just no cross sections. 2 is the time to do it. I have 2 plugs I need to get started on yesterday and do not forsee them getting done anytime soon.

I agree with A104FREAK and cast my vote for one. Especially since this was the mount for Bush 43 in his younger days. And I just like the airplane's lines.
I also agree with rpz- "Well, hey - if the fuse is 6' or less, and if it could run off of a single DF or even a turbine, then I'd be in on it - Assuming one of the kit was in the air flying, I'd pay upwards of $400-$500 - assuming a limited manual production. And F9F Texan has a great point about the inlet sizes between DF and turbines. My suggestion to this project would be to modify the mold to have two different sizes of inlets depending on what type of engine/powerplant is ordered.
I'm just a beginner in this area of the hobby, but I would like to move up to something like the vodoo or an F-4 Phantom in the next two or three years.
