A good start is to buy Thomas Kamps 2nd edition book "Model Jet Engines"

https://www.traplet.com/pages/store/...d=3581&-search

And read it about 10 times untill you understand it. If you have machine shop tools and the knowhow to use them you can build your own engine, if not, a kit will be the way to go about it.

If nothing else, reading and understanding the book above is a great way to familiarise yourself with the engine's construction, development and operation.

YES, it may be true.
I could not fully believe the certification written in China as well.
But for home builder, it could be a good source to try.
Of course, take the risk and care with what you are doing for safety.
Maybe find someone you believe to do NDI following AMS STD for you first.
Is there paten for KJ66 turbine and NGV?
Did someone paten them like auto start??
Be careful with the legal issue here, DiyJet!!

Paul, you are correct in stating this and it probably will be cheaper, but there are still a lot of people out there wanting to be true homebuilders and find out the whole thing for themselves, i built a KJ66 about 6 years ago, it taught me loads, ok so i was stripping it down after every run to adjust something but that was down to my careless building but even so the knowledge gained was invaluable.

the Wren MW54 kit is great and works a treat but you don't exactly build it from scratch as most of the parts are ready to assemble, these guys want to say i've build this motor almost from scratch and i'm flying it, the turbine wheel and NGV will need a lot of maching, no doubt they will maching the shaft tunnel from solid, construct the combustion chamber from sheet, the outer casing from a camping gaz cylinder, machine the NGV flange from heavy sheet, drill and tap all the holes........thats a homebuilt turbine, these guys want to 'build a turbine'

if i had to go back 6 or 7 years and do it all again and the MW54 kit was around i'd opt for the MW54 easy route, but thats just me.

if it starts fluttering it could be surging, i'd ask Either Gasper Espiel or Jesus Artes, if it is surging then it's more than likely to be down to the diffuser.
if it isn't surging then i don't know without having a play with it or listening to it

all the best

Hi, Could you tell me where to find out info on pricing and availibilty of this 66mm Turbine wheel and NGV from China? I'm starting a Kj66 project and want to get a "certified" turbine wheel and NGV. Thanks for your help.

The only places I am aware that sell genuine, certified to aerospace spec turbine wheels in 66mm sizes are Wren Turbines in the UK (they sell the 66mm and 54mm size and also a larger size for their gas generator for the turboprop) and Dieter Albiesser in Europe (He is Swiss I think - has ads in RCJI magazine anyhow), and Jesus Artes in Spain- and they all also sell cast NGV's also.
