Default Kyosho F-86

Hi Guys....
I needed a challenge, so i bought my first DF jet [8D]

I have a question about the pipe that is included. It has some dents in it
Does this alter the performance of the engine ?

There is also an update included with my kit. I think it is fairly new, as I dont think anyone has mentioned it here...
There is some glass material for an exhaust duct, and some mesh for extra cheater holes, and a rubber bungee kit too [8D]

Now SJ,

I remember someone once telling me they'd never go with the hassle of DF? [X(]

Taken the plunge though i see......

A dented pipe ey, sounds interesting. Shouldn't make much difference. how did it happen?

Hows the Eurosport?

If it is a tuned pipe it will make a difference in performance, although maybe not much. It may be harder to tune.

I have seen alot worse dents. I would think you will be ok. I have had a ton of pipes on tunnel hull hydro's and some were fairly banged up and worked fine. Infact, the best performing engine i had had a pipe that was bent around the moter (intentionaly). You may see a difference on a Dyno... but wont notice otherwise. LET IT EAT!
Also, read up on this site about the Kyosho, It seems to be lacking in a few area's. I hope it works for you.

Dave, hehe...as i wrote, I need a challenge.....jets are just to easy :-)
I got it for a good price, and I like the size of it Besides....it looks easy to opperate, with the recoil starter, needle valve and glow on its back.....

Ill just try the pipe as it is then.....

cyclejerk, I have read lots of stuff about it, and it doesn`t sound too good performance wise.....but I knew ths befor I bought the kit. So I wont be crying at night if it doesn`t work

It`l fly [8D]

Nice cool dense air at sea level here in Denmark should be in my favour

The best performance enhancement for the Kyosho F-86 would be a MW-44.
'Course you MAY have to beef up the wing and tail a bit, LOL

Mu haha.....

I just maidened my F-86 today [8D]
And it was from our bumpy grass field!!

But it was not easy.
7 tries, and only once it bacame airborne and came up to flying speed. On the other 6 tries, it rotated, and flew a little , and the it banked right and went in. Too low flying speed.

I can see that my wing tips have wash-in built into them. I have just twisted them to wash-out, and heated the film so they stay that way. I hape it helps a little at low speed.

my wingtips, before and after

Tried flying it again yet?

*make sure engine is fully run in.
*Use OS #8 plug
*30% fuel
*Hold it for a few seconds at full throttle.....then release and push........
*and a day with a little headwind helps

then....hopefully.........

Whats the AUW of it?

Not sure i've got enough duct to fit one in mine........[X(]

oh, well, my A7 will either work or i wont...we'll see!

Keep us posted on the F-86

Hi Dave.

Im using an OS A-3 plug, as one of my friends also has one of these, and he says it is the best plug. It lasts longest.
It seems to have good power.

Im using Cool Power 30% heli fuel.

Weight without fuel is around 1700g.

I just glued the foam bullit with some grey rubber RTV. It fits perfectly onto the rear of the recoil starter.

How much thrust do you think the little kyoshofan/os 15 makes ?
How much does your corsair weigh ?

If I only had a smoothe field, it would be a piece of cake to get it airborne. The bumpy grass does not help the plane get up to speed [&:]

Your F-86 is approx 3.7lbs dry (1700g)
My A7 with toki used to weigh 4.5lbs dry
The toki produces averagly about 2.5-2.8lbs thrust.....

If your .15 and fan is anything like that, your F-86 should be ok......

You could try a hand launch..... take the wheels off.?

hehe I tried a handlaunch, but I cant hold on to it good enough. So it resulted in a crash. Too little thrust to acc it up to speed . Im quite good at handlaunching, but this one is too hard.

Il just fly it from another fild a bit further away....

I have cut some cheater holes in it now, even though I was a bit reluctent to destroy its good looks [>:]

But Im happy with the thrust it give now....you can feel that it pulls quite good. Ive had some electric planes that were worse than this [8D]

Good idea. The "cheater inlets" will give higher static thrust..resulting in shorter takeoff (well resulting in an actual takeoff in your case )

But you may lose out a little on top end speed.

I flew without the canopy installed at all, so I hope the holes in the canopy and the bottom cheather holes, and the 6 gunport holes are just as efficiant. It just doesn`t look rigt without the canopy on [8D]

But they are not my ideas. The holes in the bottom are mentioned on an update sheet from kyosho. Also the stock 185mm cg is changed to 160-170mm

Metal plates ey!
I took a pack of lock laminate flooring to the field just incase my A7 wouldn't takeoff on toki power!

So...... how did it fly?
