Ok, I am at the point where I instal the starter .
I builded the pod.
my starter engage perfectly straight on the compressor nut and spin the engine firmly and without vibrations, BUT when I cutout the power, it doesn't disengage from the nut and spool down with the engine........
to unlock it I have to give a smal shot on the electrical starter with inversed polarity
My question is
should the starter disengage during such test or is it supose to disengage only when the engine start ?

If you're going to use an auto start ECU then the ECU will apply a breaking effect to snap the bendix back and ensure it dissengages. If you're using the starter manually you could arrange a switch so that in one position it supplies power to the motor and in another shorts the motor accross the motor terminals. This should provide a breaking effect and snap the bendix away from the compressor nut.
Make sense?

Tony

It makes perfectly sense, I will use the autostart FADEC provided by wren. I will have to read again the booklet dedicated to it, because I didn't noticed that function
Because I plan to perform some "semi automatic" start (starter and gas controled manualy), I will take care to instal a "shortcut" function on my starter control switch
thanks a lot

Phil,
If you have the autostart version just go with the settings wren advise. You will be ok, just go easy with the gas initially until you find the right amount. I use the fadec on mine and it's a breeze.
I noticed in one of your pictures the restrictor is missing in the line to the bearing lubrication festo. Don't try and run it without it! You'll end up with a very wet start and flames everywhere.
Good luck,
Tony

the restrictor is factory included in the lube line inside the engine on the recent mark 2 kit
thanks a lot for having look my picture and pointed out a potential problem
imediate test run using full autostart was my idea, I have to admit it.
in my opinion for a new turbine user like me it's easier to monitor the sequance when you don't have to hold the strter switch and propane valve. this would allow me in my opinion to have a better look to what hapen and correct a potential problem

I noticed that your gas can is on its side-if you try and start and any liquid propane mix gets into the engine you will have a very hard time starting. If you gas can has a dip tube you must hold it upside down, if no tube you must hold it vertical. good luck , Scott

How possible ???
Generally speaking, those cans spray propane vapors, not liquid propane ???
[/quote]
Some of the propane mix cans ,notably POWERMAX here in the states have dip tubes in them to deliver liquid fuel. You can tell by shaking the can and hearing the rattle of the "clunk". Scott

Yes, but wouldn't it turn into vapor instantly ?

I am going to test run it this morning, I have a helper with fire extinguisher and I think I took all precautions
I have a very last question
could you confirm me I have to tease out the glow plug element right side only and that the ignitor should be conected right side ?

Ok it runs................
I experimented some dificulties during the first start atempts
on the first atempt, the gas light up normaly, but when it switched to kero I experimented heavy torching.
after shutdown and cool down I investigate and found the fuel filter to be not tightened very good causing airbubbles and also maybe due to a too extensive pump priming
the second atempt I encountered dificulties to obtain light up on gas, it apear that instead of making the usual mistake (puting too much gas), there was not enough gas at all......
the third atempt was the good one. I experimented a small torching at fuel on, but it cured by itself .
I I made 3 cessions of 3 minuts przctising the start sequence and runing at 80000 RPM egt 510
80000RPM is the recomanded speed for engine seat down
more runs this afternoon
needless to say I am happy

Good Job. There will be some kind of flame on startup. If its bright yellow flame your ramp is too high and need to be adjusted. But from the sound of it your OK. Re tighten all screws around the exhaust cone.

I have some problems
I ran the engine this afternoon 3 more times, and each time I increased the max RPM value.
the engine refuse to accelerate above 113500 (with fadec set for max RPM160000)
at 113500 it has a verent decent EGT of only 534 (525 at 80000)
[:-]
Do I have a pump problem?
I don't have bubles at all !!!
I emailed wren 5' ago but your experience is more than welcome
I also have some problem with my ECU, when I plug it in, it somethime remain with the display showing "conecting data terminal" indefenitly, to cure I have to plug and unplug several times, or recycle radio equipement [:-]

Hi, First make sure you are useing a 6 cell pack to power your Autostart ECU you can have problems useing a 4 cell and autostart. Did you break in the pump well? (run about an hour or two connected to 1.2 volts pumping kero. It is possible that the pump is too tight yet. If you cant get the max rpm and your egt's are low that points to not enough fuel delevery. These two things could cause that. Also make sure that all you fuel line is unrestricted-pull out your filter and make sure it has not become plugged with "new tank" debries. Scott

RE: Finaly I did it ! I build my wren !!
Was the engine pre balanced? If not put your finger on the case when running to feel for any vibration. I know that if the balance id too far out the MW54 will not go above this rpm.
Any other unusual noises or does it sound OK?
Also what does the terminal show for the % power to the pump?
Regards,
Tony

If you are not hearing any unusual sound when you are at full power then your problem could be your battery not fully charge or your fuel lines too small.

Hi , the Wren Manual start 54MK2 kit (in fact I think that they are shipping the MK3 now) is $1795.00 fro Jet Hangar hobbies. As of 3/1/04 all production turbines are legal under the new AMA guidlines. Prices have gone up due to the dollar/pound value.Scott
