Default Fuel Cells for Air Pac Models F15

I just wanted to let people know that Gary at Jet-tec now makes a set of kevlar fuel cells for the Air Pac F15. He just did a set for me and they look great!!!! Also he made a second pair of tanks the same way and now I can carry 140oz of fuel instead of 72oz.

Ya Dreamworksrc.com Does not have these yet. for the Air pac F15. Air pac sells the fiberglass ones and the pair only hold 76oz. I had Gary make a different set so we could hold more fuel. around 140ozs. He now offers a set of 4 tanks two on each side, and one set in front of the gear former and a set behind it. When you run a 17lb to 30 lb turbine
76oz just does not get it. People interested in it should call Gary.
Thanks Paul

It’s great to know that we have some alternatives for different types of fuel tanks for Skymaster F-15. Is Gray going to be producing them for Skymaster F-18 as well as the Gripen? How much does the tanks go for?

Just a small correction regarding our tanks, the Skymaster tank is 110 oz. for the 3 cells. This should be enough for the P-120 size engine and over 7 minutes of flight to be safe.

I use allot of Gary's stuff.....very nicely done....But as far as the stock tanks for my F-15, as others have noted, it is 110oz with the stock centerline tank between the intakes and the two side tanks.....El Cheapo Dubro 24 oz tanks slip easily in front of the gear former for an additional 48 oz of fuel or as I am using them, for smoke oil.....if used for kero, you would have 158 oz plus UAT or just about as much as a KingCat.......

Just a correction.... Dreamworks Model Products does carry ALL Jettech (Gary Mueller Tanks). We have many available that have not hit the site yet, Including the new kevlar tanks to fit the Skymaster F15.

I started to make a set just like this. How much are Gary's? I gave him a call but he's not there. I need to figure out if I should continue making mine.

OK
Sounds like everybody has this figered out. When I said the Airpac F15 tanks were 76ozs. I ment the two sattel tanks only. They were 36 oz each. I guess I misunderstood that there were 3 tanks. When I got mine at Fla Jets Air Pac only gave me the two sattel tanks with the kit and I knew that was not enough. For safty reasons I like the kevlar tanks from Gary. He makes a good product. As for how much they cost I can not speek for Gary. I got the proto type and he has not sent me a bill yet. I also had Gary use the BVM fuel fittings for kevlar tanks. The 4 tank system fits very well and and there is no need for that center tank. more room for other stuff. I did not want to start a fude or anything I was just passing on info to other jet modelers. From reading the info on Air pac website they them selfs say that tanks are going to be available threw Jet-Tec soon. Gary is telling me he plans to have tanks available for all Air Pac aircraft,it is just a matter of time. Knowing Todd at Dreamworksrc.com he will have them too. I can't waite to get my Jet Lights on Todd's site. As Far as Air Pac and there aircraft, I was very impressed with what I saw at Fla Jets and the F18 was awsome in flight, They truely have a nice product!

This is just my opinion in the recent postings, so take it for what it is worth.

That would be perfect if I could get a set of tanks with no hardware. I already have 4 sets of BVM kevlar tank gear that I was gonna use on the set I made.

The Air Pac tanks have been working fine for my Yellow Aircraft F-15. They are priced very well at only $75/set.

Paul...which gear are you using? I'm using the Yellow F-15 retracts and my main wheels will not be able to retract with the 140 oz tanks.......which means I have to continue to make my own. []

Bob,

have you tried lowering the gear 1/4"? I didn't like the clearance between the fuel tanks and the retract without lowering them 1/4". It's a snug fit anyway so I reinforced the bottom of the fuel tank with med wt. Kevlar cloth just incase I gooned up my landing. I was using Robart 630s in my installation.

FWIW, I cut holes in the main gear doors to allow the tires to extend into on my old JHH Eagle. I had planned on covering the protruding tires with clear plastic blisters but never got around to doing it. By lowering the gear you might run into this dilemma.

You mean a 1/4 shim between the flex plate and the retract frame? Hmmm....hadn't thought about that. I put carbon plate reinforcement on top of the plywood flex plates but I guess I could have put them on the bottom. I just put another layer of kevlar on the tanks I'm making so we'll see how it goes.....

yup, 1/4" between the retract and the plywood plate, but if you're making your own tanks it should be a non-issue.

FWIW I flew for 7 minutes from brake release using the stock tanks with a P-120. However, I rarely flew greater than 1-2 clicks above 1/2 throttle except for some really big loops and T/O.

The best way to increase flight time is to add a wet centerline drop tank. Gary Mueller sells one or you can modify a stock drop tank to hold a 3/4oz avian water bottle. works great and adds a good 2-3 minutes of flight time to your internals.

heck if you could make 'em fit I'd put some kingcat tanks in her.

I also used a 1/4 ply shim under the retract plate. I am using the Diamond Aurora retracts and the AirPac struts/wheels. Retracts clear the tanks and the tires completely go into the fuse.

I think the Yellow struts are longer than the Airpac ones (don't know for sure) as I had to cut a bit out of the fuse forward of the door so that the wheels could retract.

Bob,

You really don’t have to cut your own shim. We have shims pre-cut for you. The height of Skymaster F-15 gear platform was originally designed for Airpower 201 retracts, . Later we started recommending Robart’s 630 for Skymaster’s F-15, therefore we include the shim for each plane.

So if there are any Skymaster customer’s who need the shims, please let me know.

Also, we have tried Yellow’s gears for our F-15. It is much longer, so you may cut Yellow’s struts shorter to fit Skymaster F-15.
