Winamac Jets Over the Heartland (2004) Pictures
Winamac Jets Over The Heartland jet meet June 25th through the 27th. Alot of people are coming early this year so it should be a great meet this year. Lots of vendors and a Killer Fireworks show has been promised by my buddy Ralph Braun. "BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR" Just wondering how many are coming. Also a pilot dinner on Saturday night before the Fireworks. Each registered pilot gets a 1/2 a chicken cooked by the folks at port-a-pit. Cole slaw and baked beans round out the meal. A map and info has been posted on the BVM website. For those of you not familiar with BVM the address is www.bvmjets.com (DUH!) Click on the Jets Over The Heartland logo and presto!
We have a beautiful 800x50' asphalt runway with 100' grass runoffs on both ends. To see the field go to www.pwrtc.com/~marvin/ Hope to see you there!

There are 7 of us coming from MN. How could the fireworks be any better than last year? They were incredible! I will be there Thursday afternoon.

RE: Winamac Jets Over the Heartland
Make sure to bring your lawn chair and park your rump at the campfire to watch the fireworks Saturday nite. Ralph puts on quite the show for all in attendance. I think the whole town shows up for this event. Probably one of the best displays you will ever witness. Beautifull facility, great hosts, delicious food, plenty of parking, and you get to meet T1-T2 andT3!!!
BTW, Tim informed me that there is now a hotel in Winamac.
See you there.

RE: Winamac Jets Over the Heartland
Tom,
Tracy told me that the hotel in Winamac has undergone a recent overhaul, and that it would be ok for use for a couple of nights, nothing fancy, but a hot shower and clean bed. And it's close.
I had her reserve me a room for Fri-Sat. Beats renting a motorhome or driving all the way back to Rochester. T1 or T2 could probably chime in here with more details.
See you next week,
rb

The SW Florida crew will be there Thursday afternoon. I think it's around 20 plus hours, but it's worth just to see TIM.

RE: Winamac Jets Over the Heartland
There has been alot of chatter about overweight airplanes flying at the meet. I will have a scale on site to weigh any airplanes that would appear to be near the limit. This will probably be nothing more than a bathroom scale but will have to be the official scale for the meet. If you have your own I would be glad to average the weights. If your close to the given weight and can't load enough fuel for a "SAFE!" flight don't expect to fly it this weekend. I am sorry as I know alot of money and time are given for the pursuit of that awesome demonstration flight in front of your peers. I am not going to jeprodise my CD standing or our field not to mention the safety of spectators and fellow modelers for one persons 15 minutes of fame. Also the AMA is giving coverage from sun up till sundown so don't get any ideas there either. Other BIG so called jet meets have let this sort of thing happen and said it won't happen next year even though the rules were already in effect. I guess they were to busy to notice a huge airplane taking off that everybody in the place had there eyes on but them. Sorry to offend anyone but spare me the embarrassment of telling you you can't fly your plane after driving all the way to Winamac because its overweight. Also as I consider to call most jet modelers my "Friends" please don't put me in that position, as I would not do the same to you! Also anyone that would make a complaint that someone else's jet may be overweight had better make sure theres is not. 55 lbs is the the maximum weight for the airplane at takeoff. If your taking fuel out to fly at the correct weight you will need quite a bit of fuel for a "SAFE!" flight albeit a short one with a plane that weighs 55 lbs. Taxing for takeoff and a false start would burn up useful fuel and a dangerous condition would surely arise. An airplane that weighs 50 lbs can only carry about 80 ounces of fuel that puts it at the required weight. Lets say a * AT 400* burning 25 ounces a minute and full throttle on takeoff would last little more than two minutes including taxi for takeoff. NOT SAFE! Gotta do a go-around and your screwed! Oops right into the pits! It would be my personal feeling that at least a gallon of USEABLE fuel would be necessary for a safe flight and this would be marginal! So if you you can't meet these numbers leave it on the ground or at home! Sorry AMA has these rules and I have to be the Policeman.[>:] Now if we had these rules changed to 55lbs without fuel we would have no problem. So call your AMA president, District rep or whomever you can reach and let them know your plight. And by the way none of those are ME! See you This weekend ( I hope) and lets have a great time

you gotta do what you gotta do,
it looks to me like this might be an issue with a few guys. But not many.
however it sucks to see the rules getting in the way of promoting the hobby to
an even greater level. I have herd through the grapevine that some of the more
reputable manufacturers are looking at making bigger kits.
This 55 pound rule will most definitely put a damper on that.
everyone flying jets should take notice and watch how the rules change from year to year
and sound off to the proper folks over at the AMA. This effects us all . It doesn’t matter were you are at in the Jet Set sooner or later it may effect you personally. So don't be afraid to sound off.
As Far as Someone being the Jet COP, Well I'm glad it's not me. But you have my support

Safety should always be first but I take issue with your closing statements.
Seems you are rewriting what the AMA intentions were with regard to fuel and weight. By adding your own twist. A model thats carries 200 ounces of fuel and only needs say 100 oz for a flight doesn't have to be filled up. This is not a car where when you need fuel you fill the tank.
Actual jet aircraft very seldom if ever top off there tanks.
Then you go on to make this comment and I quote AT 400* burning 25 ounces a minute and full throttle on takeoff would last little more than two minutes including taxi for takeoff. NOT SAFE!
If you go to AMT web site http://www.usamt.com/ and look up specifications you will find the AT400 burns 14oz a min at 39lbs of thrust. not 25 ounces as you suggest. This fuel burn translates into a flight time of 5.7 min. If a person wanted to fly this plane for 3 min I find nothing wrong with it.
When you consider that you are basing all your assumptions on WOT I don't think your being realistic.
